Proms blues… yes the Proms are over, but still on BBC sounds. Denis Kozhukin playing the Ravel G major piano concerto with the Philarmonia and Vasily Petrenko was unforgettable! Wow so extraordinary…

Amazing Prom with Yunchan Lim and Paavo Järvi conducting the BBC SO in Beethoven’s Emperor concerto. Great encore J.S. Bach-Ignaz Friedman transcription, ‘Siciliano’ (from Sonata for flute & piano). Loved the very beautiful sound!

Went to Japan House in High Street Kensington, London to see their exhibition ‘Towards a Design Museum Japan’ and had a look at the piano of course… This is a new concept of the piano as a speaker and the sound resonating through the body of the pianist with the help of modern technology. I want to be open to new ideas… In my opinion, to feel music in every cell of your body the strong emotional connection with the piece and the composer (and the piano) are more important than technology. It’s always good to be challenged and I might be totally wrong.

What a formidable piano recital by Francesco Piemontesi at Wigmore Hall tonight! The programme was so original, combining Debussy & Schubert… genius combination! His Debussy preludes were simply sublime… hadn’t heard such marvellous playing for a very long time.

Sonate n°26 « Les Adieux » de Beethoven 08/10/2020

I love this French version of Radio 3’s Record Review... with the bonus of having 3 music critics discuss 1 masterpiece for 2 hours! Very lively & fascinating comments. Like in a blind wine tasting, the 3 critics have to choose 1 final version out of 6, without knowing the names of the interpreters. That might explain why Arrau was the first pianist out of those 6 not to make it to the final... Good that listeners can also vote.

Sonate n°26 « Les Adieux » de Beethoven Bertrand Boissard, Elsa Fottorino et Alain Lompech élisent la version de référence de la Sonate n°26 « Les Adieux » de Ludwig van Beethoven.

Piano masterclasses at RCM are so exceptional, that no matter what level you are in your piano journey, there is plenty to learn! As a piano teacher, I find them very enriching & inspirational & recommend them to all my students.

Thank you so much to both the Ambassador of Vietnam & the Lord Mayor of Westminster for taking time from their busy schedule to attend my pupil's piano recital.
I was very impressed by the Lord Mayor's musical knowledge. She has already done a lot for the community and is supporting some music charities. I wish her the best of success with her new project of starting an amateur orchestra at the Westminster Music Library. What a great idea!
