Can you actually boil bass strings to bring them back to life? 🎸🔥

While the myth is technically true, it only works for about two days. Between the unpleasant smell and the grime that comes off the strings during the process, you probably won't want to touch them ever again!

If you want that fresh, new string sound, your best bet is to just buy a new set.

A lot of people grow up thinking they missed their chance to do this kind of thing.

Join a band. Get in a studio. Make a record. Have something to show for all the playing they’ve done around work, life and everything else.

We don’t believe in that.

Music doesn’t have to stay as the thing you nearly did.

A few clips from Well Street Common Festival ✨

Darryl joined David, Mark and Nick for the headline set, with guitar, sax, keys and decks all in the mix.

Thanks so much to for having us!

As one of the greatest bands of all time, knowing about Led Zeppelin is as foundational as knowing your ABCs and 123s, for any rock fan… at least that’s what we thought. (Maybe it should be 1234s…)

Some songs sit on your “I’ll learn that one day” list for months.

You save the tab, watch half a tutorial, get to the bit that doesn’t quite make sense, get frustrated and leave it for another week.

These workshops are a different way in.

One song, two hours, jamming together.

Introducing: ‘Have You Heard of This Band?’
If you ask Darryl whether he’s ever heard of a band you love, chances are he never has. But Zainab seems to have knowledge on all the things he doesn’t. Find out how much they do know about music (and how much they don’t) in a new series from KitchenJam.

Community is everything when you’re growing as a musician. That’s exactly what we saw at our latest open mic.

Stepping out of the practice room and onto a live stage is one of the most vital steps you can take. It’s where you figure out how your sound translates, how to read a room, and how to truly connect with an audience.

This is exactly what live music is all about.

For most of the band, this was the first time they’d done a proper recording session.

It’s a strange thing hearing yourself back for the first time. You notice tiny bits you didn’t hear while you were playing, everyone has opinions on the take, someone wants to do it again, and slowly the whole thing starts sounding like an actual track.

That’s what we like about doing workshops like this. It gets students into the parts of music that are usually a bit harder to access when you’re learning. Being in the room, working something out together, and leaving with something you all made.

Most adults don’t start guitar because they want homework.

They start because, somewhere in the back of their mind, there’s a version of them playing in a room with other musicians and not feeling like they’re pretending.

That’s what KitchenJam is really about. Not waiting until everyone feels completely ready, because most people never do.

It’s about making playing with other people part of the process, not the reward at the end.

Every great record starts somewhere. For our teen students, it started right here at Kitchen Jam.

Last summer, these young musicians took on our 2-day workshop. Day one was all about the rehearsal room, learning three tracks, locking in as a band, and perfecting their live sound. By day two, they stepped into a recording studio environment to lay those tracks down for real.

Kitchen Jam is about giving young musicians the space, the gear, and the guidance to find their true sound.
