London Design and Engineering UTC The London Design & Engineering UTC Innovative, Exciting Education For 13-19 year olds

Welcome to the London Design and Engineering University Technical College

We are a student focused, hi tech, school, where academic excellence and industry partners create the next generation of confident, independent, work ready, future workforce. Our first class facilities and specialist equipment, combined with our outstanding staff provide experiences that will equip the students of the LDE UTC with the skills needed to secure employment or routes into higher education. The curriculum is delivered through interesting and exciting employer led projects, enabling learning by doing, making learning relevant and memorable, which boosts our students’ academic achievement. With expert careers advice from our university and employer sponsors, mentoring, site visits and work placements, every student has the opportunity to secure either paid employment, a traineeship or apprenticeship or a place in further or higher education for which bursaries and scholarships are available.

🎒 Welcome Year 9
This week, we welcomed our new Year 9 students to LDE UTC.
Induction gave students time to find their way around, meet their teachers and classmates, and get used to their new school before lessons get underway.
At LDE UTC, employer engagement starts from Year 9. Alongside their core subjects, students will study technical subjects and work with employers through projects, masterclasses and other opportunities built into school life.
As the only technical school in the UK to receive five Exceptional judgements from Ofsted, we are incredibly proud of the school they are joining.

🎓 Welcome to Year 12 at LDE UTC
This week, we welcomed our newest Year 12 students as they begin an exciting journey at LDE UTC.
At LDE UTC, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Students work alongside employers, take part in real-world projects and gain first-hand insight into the industries shaping our future.
Through employer-led experiences, industry placements and professional mentoring, students develop the technical knowledge, professional behaviours and problem-solving skills that universities, apprenticeship providers and employers value most.
As one of the country’s leading employer-led schools, and recently recognised by Ofsted with five Exceptional judgements, we’re proud to provide an education that prepares young people for skilled careers, further study and lifelong success. 
This is more than an induction week. It’s the start of a journey that connects education with opportunity.
We can’t wait to see what this new cohort achieves.

Proud moment for London Design & Engineering UTC.

Our CEO and Principal, Geoffrey Fowler, has been shortlisted for National Headteacher of the Year State Sector at the Tes Schools Awards 2026.

This recognition reflects Geoffrey’s leadership in building LDE UTC into a nationally recognised centre of excellence for technical education, delivering exceptional outcomes for young people.

A huge congratulations to Geoffrey and the entire LDE UTC community. Winners will be announced on 19 June.

A fantastic day of creativity and hands-on learning!
Today, we welcomed a group of prospective Year 12 learners to a Craft & Design Upholstery taster session with our partners at the East London Furniture Institute.
Throughout the day, learners stepped into a real workshop environment and got stuck into learning practical upholstery skills. With support from specialist tutors, they each reupholstered a chair seat from start to finish — and the results were incredible.
This experience gave learners a true insight into what it’s like to study a creative, hands-on course after GCSEs, helping them explore whether this could be the right pathway for them.
We’re so proud of the effort, focus, and creativity shown by everyone involved today. It’s been amazing to see learners try something new and produce such high-quality work in just one day!
