From 28 October 2013, there will be two parts to the knowledge of language and life requirement, both of which must be met by all applicants for settlement and for naturalisation unless the individual is exempt. Applicants will be required to:
* pass the Life in the UK test; and

B1 English Test is a must along with Life in the UK Test if you are applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or British Citizenship.
A1 English Test is for Spouse Visa, Partner visa and parent of a dependant child visa.
A2 English Exam is for Spouse Visa Extension, Partner Visa Extension and Parent of a Dependant Child Visa Extension.
All these exams have to be at an approved SELT Centre.
