Respected Moulana Shahan رحمه الله has had a profound impact on all of his students and colleagues.

It's so difficult to capture all of his unique qualities in a short post. We don't even know where to start!

Moulana Shahan was an amazing person. He was kind, generous, principled and meticulous in everything he did.

His teaching style, story telling, logical explanations and great approach were all traits that were held in high esteem.

We would later only begin to appreciate the depth of his knowledge and his amazing behaviour towards everyone when he left this dunya.

He was one of the kind and great human beings we have met.

Above all, what really stood out was his humility and love for his asaatizah, students, Al Falah, colleagues and family.

Moulana Shahan was the person you would go to if you needed counselling, any sort of advice, if you were just feeling down. He would always have time for you and was never judgemental.

Moulana Shahan was a captivating story teller. He would bring the characters to life and take you with him to that point in history. It was a truly awesome experience. Al Falah family truly miss the nice smile on his blessed face!

May Allah have mercy on our beloved Shaykh Moulana Shahan.

May Allah elevate his status in the hereafter.

May Allah grant his family and spiritual children sabr jameel.

May Allah make all of us a means of Sadaqah Jaariyah for him and his loved ones.

I was so excited about initiating him into the world of Net banking.

He asked ''If I do that, I wont have to step out of the house?

''Yes, yes''! I said. I told him how even grocery can be delivered at door now and how amazon delivers everything!

His answer left me tongue-tied.

He said ''Since I entered this bank today, I have met four of my friends, I have chatted a while with the staff who know me very well by now.

You know I m alone...
this is the company that I need. I like to get ready and come to the bank. I have enough time, it is the physical touch that I crave.

Two years back I got sick, The store owner from whom I buy fruits, came to see me and sat by my bedside and cried.

My wife fell down few days back while on her morning walk. My local grocer saw her and immediately got his car to rush her home as he knows where I live.

Would I have that 'human' touch if everything became online?

Why would I want everything delivered to me and force me to interact with just my computer?

I like to know the person that I'm dealing with and not just the 'seller'. It creates bonds. Relationships.

Motala Academy

One of the central principles of Islam is helping others. While some perceive Islam as a faith that encourages violence rather than positive contributions to society, the Qur’an and especially the hadith highlight how helping another human being is a fundamental aspect of Islam. Muslims’ primary goal is to worship God, but this is done not only through rituals like prayer and fasting but also through treatment of other people.

Before the Prophet Muhammad started to receive revelation, he would spend a great deal of time meditating in a cave outside of Mecca. One of the issues that he reflected on was how some members of his society–like women, orphans, and those without tribal protection–were treated. It is for this reason that there are many hadith that emphasize the importance of helping others. “If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path.” It is clear from this that helping others is connected to a believer’s worship of God. In other words, the hadith connects responsibility to people to other acts of worship like reading Qur’an with other Muslims and seeking knowledge. Moreover, there is a clear reward for a person who aids another, both in this world and in the next. This is important for Muslims, as I mentioned in an earlier post, because they believe that each person will face God on the Day of Judgment and be asked about all their deeds. It is clear from the above hadith that helping others is not optional but a religious duty.

Messages like this one are often not highlighted. However, this idea is articulated in numerous hadith and Qur’anic verses. Moreover, the Prophet Muhammad is considered by Muslims to be the highest example and he would very often help others, even if it meant that he had to sacrifice something. So by his example also, Islam is a faith that makes helping others and society a core principle.
