Congratulations to Dr Daniel Yon from Birkbeck’s School of Psychological Sciences, whose forthcoming book, 'A Trick of the Mind: How the Brain Invents Your Reality', has been highlighted by Penguin Random House as a highly anticipated title release in 2025 🥳

In the book, Dr Yon draws on research in and – including studies from his own Uncertainty Lab at Birkbeck - to explain how our brains build theories about the world around us, which go on to shape how we perceive our environments, other people and ourselves. 🧠

A Birkbeck alumna and former journalist, who was at the forefront of exposing the Post Office Horizon scandal, has been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List 2025 🥳

Rebecca Thomson (MA Philosophy 2009) was awarded an OBE for services to justice because of her reporting on the scandal, which later saw hundreds of sub-postmasters wrongly prosecuted.

Rebecca first published her year-long investigation into the problems with the Post Office’s accounting software, Horizon, in 2009 for Computer Weekly after speaking with seven sub-postmasters.

Since then, and after Rebecca left the title, Computer Weekly’s journalists continued to investigate what is now known as the biggest single series of wrongful convictions in British legal history.

We're very pleased to say that the cast in David Eldridge's upcoming play 'End' have been announced!

David says: "I am delighted that Sakia Reeves (Slow Horses) and Clive Owen (Closer) are returning to the National Theatre to play the final play in my trilogy about love and relationships END this coming November. Its a great privilege to work with actors of this calibre and heart on the concluding part of what's been a ten-year labour of love on my part".

David is a lecturer in the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication at Birkbeck, and teaches playwriting in our MA Theatre and Performance and one of our newest courses, MA Writing for Screen and Stage.
