A real privilege to speak at University of Roehampton today on leading teacher development.

We explored what the literature tells us about effective professional learning — and, critically, the role of leadership in turning evidence into sustained practice. From intentional design and coherence, to culture, trust, and implementation, the session centred on how leaders create the conditions for teacher growth that genuinely improves outcomes for learners.

Encouraging to engage in such thoughtful discussion about moving beyond performative CPD towards development that is purposeful, evidence-informed and values-led.

Thank you for the openness, challenge and ambition in the room.

✨ Is school still the right fit for your child in 2026? ✨

As the new year approaches, many families are quietly asking themselves this question.

Across the UK, we’re seeing declining engagement with traditional schooling, alongside changing family needs. Work is more flexible. Families are travelling more. Children are navigating anxiety, overload and systems that don’t always adapt quickly enough.

More parents are exploring Elective Home Education (EHE) — not as a last resort, but as a thoughtful, proactive choice that reflects modern family life.

💬 Have you noticed any of this in your own family?
• A child who’s disengaged or overwhelmed?
• A schedule that no longer fits rigid school structures?
• Work or travel commitments that require flexibility?

At Combinative Education, we support families who want something different — without compromising on quality, structure, or outcomes.

🔹 High-quality bespoke tutoring
🔹 Flexible learning schedules that work around real life
🔹 Guidance and confidence-building for parents during transition
🔹 Specialist SEND support, including anxiety and school refusal

We combine deep expertise across mainstream, specialist and alternative education with an understanding of how families are living and working today.

✨ If you’re rethinking education this year, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

This year has reminded us that education is never just about outcomes — it’s about people, belonging, and hope. About holding high expectations and deep humanity. About combining expertise to meet needs, even in the most complex circumstances.

Over the holidays, we hope you find rest, joy, and time with the people who matter most. May the new year bring renewed energy, clarity of purpose, and moments that remind you why this work matters so deeply.

From all of us at Combinative Education — warm wishes for a peaceful holiday season and a hopeful, impactful year ahead 💛

💭 Where does technology fit into the new curriculum changes?

The new National Curriculum proposals strengthen the basics — literacy, numeracy, knowledge sequencing and inclusion. All vital. All welcome.

But in a world transformed by AI, automation and data — we have to ask:

Why isn’t technological fluency treated as a core entitlement?
Yes, there are positive signals:
🔹 A broader Computing GCSE is being developed — covering AI literacy, data use and digital ethics.
🔹 Schools will be encouraged to embed digital, media and financial literacy across subjects.
🔹 A possible new post-16 qualification in Data Science and AI is being explored.

But here’s the catch:
🧩 Computing is statutory at every key stage — yet the GCSE is not mandatory.
🧩 It sits outside the “core buckets” that shape national accountability (English, maths, science, EBacc).
🧩 Most pupils can still complete their schooling without any formal qualification in digital or AI literacy.

So while the curriculum talks about preparing young people for life and work, it still treats technology as a subject rather than the infrastructure of modern learning.

As AI advances faster than any policy cycle, the risk is clear: we produce digitally-literate teachers and digitally-illiterate systems.

If we truly want to prepare children for a future that doesn’t yet exist, we need a curriculum that not only teaches about technology — but teaches through it, with it, and to question it.

👇 What do you think? Should digital and AI literacy now be considered a core entitlement, alongside reading and maths?

A brilliant day at the TES SEND Show in London! 💡

At Combinative Education , we’re always looking for ways to grow our knowledge and strengthen the support we provide — and today was full of inspiration and insight.

We attended the Ofsted session exploring the changes to the Education Inspection Framework, which now includes a SEND lens — a positive step towards ensuring that inclusion sits at the heart of educational practice.

We also joined an incredibly thought-provoking session with Dr Asha Patel, delving into the power of trauma-informed practice in education. Her passion on understanding the stories behind behaviour really resonated with us and reinforced the importance of asking ‘why’ when examining behaviour before we consider ‘how’ we go about our approaches. 🌱

Between sessions, we explored the exhibition stands, discovering innovative resources, tools, and services, and enjoyed connecting with so many professionals who share our commitment to improving outcomes for all learners.

It was a day that reminded us why we do what we do — combining our expertise to meet your needs.

👉 If you were at the Tes SEND Show too, what inspired you most?

The Education Committee’s new report, Solving the SEND Crisis, makes one thing crystal clear: the future of SEND provision will demand clearer national standards, stronger accountability, and more inclusive practice in every school and college.

We bring a proven track record of working in and alongside award-winning, outstanding specialist schools, helping leaders strengthen SEND provision across online, hybrid, and in-person settings. Whatever the school / trust needs, we have the expertise and experience to help.

Here’s how we support school and trust leaders:

🔹 Auditing and strengthening SEND provision

🔹 Preparing for forthcoming national standards and Ofsted scrutiny

🔹 Building whole-school inclusive practice and staff confidence

🔹 Developing strategic pathways for sustainable provision and funding
