These are the three most expensive schools in Britain — and the price tag isn’t just about prestige.

Cheltenham Ladies’ College costs up to £68,000 a year. It’s an all-girls school built around confidence and leadership, not just grades — alumni include some of Britain’s top fashion designers.

Brighton College costs around £67,000 a year. It regularly tops the UK’s academic league tables, but its real strength is in the arts — music, dance, drama — alongside serious academics.

And Westminster School, right in the shadow of Westminster Abbey in central London, costs about £66,000 a year. Classes average just 12 students, and a huge share of leavers go straight to Oxbridge or the Ivy League.

So what are parents really paying for? Not just a building or a uniform — it’s class size, teacher access, and a network that opens doors for decades after graduation.

What should a child learn after English?
It’s not simply about choosing the language that is most popular at school.

For families thinking long-term, the more interesting question is: which languages could create opportunities in the future?

The British Council has identified five priority languages for the UK’s future: Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, French, Arabic and German.
And there’s already an interesting shift happening in England: in 2026, Spanish overtook French to become the most popular language at GCSE.

So if you’re choosing a second language for your child, it’s worth looking beyond the classroom — and thinking about the world they may enter in 10–20 years.
