A lot of people are moving to Italy 🇮🇹, Spain 🇪🇸, Portugal 🇵🇹, and France 🇫🇷 first because it’s cheaper.

You can start working there, earn in euros, save, and then relocate to your dream country. Waiting in Africa to gather all the money in naira or your local currency only weakens your funds. © Lisa Agu

By the time you think you’re ready, the years go by and the cost keeps rising. The more you try to save, the more the years pass, and the more expensive everything becomes.

Then to Uk 🇬🇧, A lot of people move to the UK 🇬🇧 because most admissions are free. You can apply to so many schools, have multiple options, and the visa is straightforward. Document authentication isn’t a nightmare, and if you meet the requirements, you get the visa. That’s how simple it can be. © Lisa Agu

Some people are choosing New Zealand 🇳🇿 visit visas because it’s one of the few countries where you can legally switch from a visit visa to a work visa. Seasonal work visas are another reason, they are cheaper, faster, and less complicated.

Other countries people strategically move to include Ireland 🇮🇪, Canada 🇨🇦, Germany 🇩🇪, and Australia 🇦🇺. Each has its own pros and cons.

Some are cheaper to start with, some have easier work paths after study, some have high upfront costs but long-term rewards. © Lisa Agu

The truth is, you have to look inward and pick the visa and country that suits your situation.

Don’t move to Germany 🇩🇪 just because your friend moved there. Do you have proof of funds/block account ? Or is your friend able to stand in for you?

These are questions you must answer for yourself.

Plan smart. Start where it’s practical, earn, save, and then move to your dream destination.

Don’t wait for the “perfect moment” because it doesn’t exist.

We can all win together ❤️

“My Friend earns £2,000 or $3,000 abroad!” immediately you hear this, your ears open and immediately you start converting it to naira. © Lisa Agu

It sounds huge, right? Yes, I know 😂

But that’s only half the story.

Life abroad comes with structure and bills.
Taxes, rent, transport, insurance, food… everything has its place. It's unavoidable. In fact, tax will even
Collect their cut before given you.…© Lisa Agu

So while you earn more, you also spend more but in return, you get stability, security, and systems that actually work.

Exampls,
A care worker in the UK, for instance, might earn around £2,000 a month.

After expenses, they might save a few hundred pounds not flashy, but consistent. © Lisa Agu

Over time, that’s what builds something real, credit, residency, a career path, and peace of mind.

So no, relocating isn’t a magic fix,but it can be a solid foundation for people who plan smart, work hard, and think long-term.

Is relocation worth it?? I will give it a strong yes!!!!

However, If you’re considering moving abroad, go in with your eyes open not just for the money, but for the structure that lets your effort count and keep you safe. © Lisa Agu

If you want love and relationships, look at Romania 🇷🇴, Bulgaria 🇧🇬, Latvia 🇱🇻, and Poland 🇵🇱.

If you have money and want expensive but quality education, go to Netherlands 🇳🇱, Belgium 🇧🇪, or Switzerland 🇨🇭. Be ready to spend money. agu

If you want to study medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or dentistry on a budget, check Latvia 🇱🇻, Estonia 🇪🇪, Lithuania 🇱🇹, Slovakia 🇸🇰, Hungary 🇭🇺, and Romania 🇷🇴.

If your goal is work and survival, look at Lithuania 🇱🇹, and Portugal 🇵🇹.

If you want English-speaking countries, look at UK 🇬🇧, Ireland 🇮🇪, Canada 🇨🇦, and Malta 🇲🇹.

And understand this clearly, your first country is not always your final country.

Some people study in one country, move to another for work, then settle somewhere else later.

Relocation is about strategy. What is your interest??©️ Lisa Agu

There are a lot of people who studied courses like microbiology, chemistry, biology, geography, music, zoology ,history etc, then they later come into the UK through the MSc pre-registration nursing route and became a Uk Registered Nurse in.2 years.....

This is like a conversion pathway in a way.

You study for about two years, you do your placements, and then after that you can register with the NMC and start working as a nurse in the UK. agu

And there are quite a few options for where you can do it, it’s not just one or two universities.

You kind of just pick what works for you, depending on entry requirements, location, all of that.

Some universities will ask for a 2:1, some are okay with a 2:2 if you’ve got experience.

And usually they also expect you to have some kind of care background, like working in social care, hospitals, or even informal caring experience for family members.

They do want to see that you actually understand what care work feels like in real life.

And then at the end of it, you’re basically moving into registration and practice as a nurse in the UK.

Isnt that amazing???

But i must also tell you that you will pay tuition, which is often for two years...oo

Here are list of universities you can check..

University of Plymouth
Coventry University
University of Lincoln
University of Huddersfield
University of Bolton
University of Chester
Birmingham City University
Teesside University
University of Dundee
Glasgow Caledonian University
Manchester Metropolitan University
University of Liverpool©️ Lisa Agu

One of the smartest moves you can make before moving abroad is learning the local or widely spoken language! Yes!!!

Language = Access + Opportunity

Here are countries Nigerians (and many others) are relocating to in 2026 and the language(s) you should be learning to make life easier, faster, and richer: © Lisa Agu

🇺🇸 USA – Spanish (especially in states like California, Texas, Florida, New York)
🇨🇦 Canada – French (a must in Quebec and helpful in Ontario)
🇳🇿 New Zealand – Māori (respected culturally, basic phrases go a long way)
🇮🇪 Ireland – Irish (Gaelic) (not widely spoken daily, but adds cultural value)
🇩🇪 Germany – German
🇫🇷 France – French
🇪🇸 Spain – Spanish
🇵🇹 Portugal – Portuguese
🇮🇹 Italy – Italian
🇳🇱 Netherlands – Dutch
🇳🇴 Norway – Norwegian
🇸🇪 Sweden – Swedish
🇫🇮 Finland – Finnish
🇯🇵 Japan – Japanese
🇰🇷 South Korea – Korean
🇧🇷 Brazil – Portuguese
🇲🇽 Mexico – Spanish

You don’t need to be fluent. Just knowing how to say “hello,” “please,” “thank you,” or how to ask for directions can change your whole experience abroad.

If you’re serious about relocating in 2026, don’t just prepare your documents, prepare your tongue too 😄

There are apps to learn online for free❤️
Good luck ❤️!!

MY FIRST JOB AFTER MOVING ABROAD WAS IN RETAIL, and my first day at work was also my last day 🤣🤣

So it was my first day na .. I was happy to start earning in pounds...i came very hopeful and was just observing and getting trained.

The number one problem i observed first was the accent, it was a real challenge for me. Especially Scottish accent. agu

I was struggling to understand them, and at the same time they were also struggling to understand me properly.

Then the second one is the money system too… coins, kwa 🙄🙄..I was still processing everything slowly.

I was just trying to keep up.

During training, the man said, from monday you will be the one here and i will go to the other shop since it’s usually one person running it at a time.

What... How do you want me to handle this whole shop alone and i dont even understand them🤨🥺😳

It was at that moment that i knew i had to make a decision... because I knew I was still adjusting and learning. agu

I didn’t go back after that.

That was my last day.

Because I knew if I had gone back in that state, I would likely make mistakes that could put me in debt.

So I stepped away....I ran and didnt look back...

Now my advice to you that plans to move abroad,
Don’t be like me and keep quiet when you’re not ready.

If you have concerns, speak up. If you are struggling, say it.

It’s better to ask for more support, more time, or more shadowing, than to push yourself into a situation you can’t handle yet.

I should have spoken. I should have said I needed more time or more training, instead of just running.

Sometimes saying it early saves you from problems later.©️ Lisa Agu

I’ve told someone before, don’t withdraw that visa application. Just leave it.I even said, if it doesn’t work out, I’ll refund your application fee 🥺🥺, so dont be afraid..

At the time, I hadn’t even found my own ground here in the uk, either. So it wasn’t because everything was perfect on my side. It was just because sometimes people need something steady to lean on while they’re making decisions that feel bigger than them. agu

There was another time my friend wanted to buy a car, but he was worried and concerned that the car might be a bad decision and his colleague said something simple to him:

“If anything goes wrong, I’ve got you. Just go for it.”

Honestly, these are moments in life where it’s not really about money, or plans, or even confidence. It’s about knowing there are people who will stand still while you move forward.

Back to that application story.

She didn’t withdraw the visa application, even when it felt risky. And three days to the resumption deadline, the visa came through. The only issue was that the flight was expensive… agu

Now, maybe you call it timing. Maybe you see it differently.

But I keep thinking… what if they had stepped out too early?

Some things only work when you stay long enough to see them play out.

Why am I telling you all this? What is the bigger lesson in this story?

Today, look around you. Not just look, but carefully evaluate your circle.

Are you building people who are solid?

People who don’t just speak when things are easy, but stay when things are uncertain.

Because you will need them to be very solid.

And not just in relocation, but in life generally.

And don’t say it’s because I have money, because I don’t have it.

Let them be solid, no matter the level of life you both are in.

And if you’re lucky enough to have even one or two of those people, don’t take them lightly. Be the same for them too. © Lisa Agu

Things to AVOID While Planing to Relocate Abroad – The Mistakes No One Talks About!

Relocating abroad is an exciting journey, but many people make costly mistakes before they even leave Nigeria. Some errors can delay your plans, drain your savings, or even make settling abroad difficult. Here are INSIGHTFUL and UNPOPULAR mistakes to avoid while preparing to relocate:©️ Lisa Agu

1. Quitting Your Job Too Early

Many people resign immediately after getting admission, a visa, or even while still applying. Bad move! Keep your job until you are 100% sure of your travel plans. A job provides financial security and can be useful for proof of funds, visa approvals, or fallback plans if things go south. Always have a back up plan.

2. Overloading Your Bags with ‘Home Comforts’

Nigerians love to travel with bags of garri, and clothes they’ll never wear. While it’s okay to carry essentials, but remember:

Some countries have strict customs regulations (e.g., Australia and New Zealand ban many food items).
Overweight luggage means paying unnecessary extra fees at the airport.©️ Lisa Agu

3. Depending Too Much on ‘Helpers’ Abroad

Yes, you may have family or friends abroad, but not everyone can accommodate or support you. Before you travel, get a concrete plan for accommodation, job search, and finances. Your ‘uncle in London’ has his own bills to pay! People can promise you accommodation but you will call them on the day of your arrival, no response. They will leave you stranded at the airport 😔

4. Keeping Your Relocation Plans Too ‘Secret’

While you don’t need to announce it to the world, hiding your plans from even important people can be risky. Know the right people to speak to, not everyone is against your jakpa move.

5.Not Researching Your Visa & Immigration Rules Properly

Visa rules differ by country, and what worked for someone else may not work for you.
Some countries (like Canada and Australia) allow work while studying; others (like the US) have strict restrictions.
Not all visas lead to permanent residency, so plan accordingly.

6. Traveling Without Enough Money for the First Few Months©️ Lisa Agu

Even if you secure a job abroad, your first salary won’t come instantly. Many new immigrants struggle because they underestimate:

1.Cost of rent deposits and advance payments
2. Transportation and initial expenses
3.Unexpected delays in finding work

Always have at least 3-6 months of living expenses saved before you relocate.

7. Ignoring Networking & Career Planning Before You Move

Many people think job searching starts AFTER they land abroad. Instead:
Start networking early (join LinkedIn groups, connect with professionals in your field).

Get your CV/resume updated to match international standards.

Research industry requirements, Some fields require licensing or additional certifications.

Relocating is not just about getting a visa, it’s about being fully prepared for a smooth transition and successful life abroad. Avoid these mistakes, plan wisely, and ensure that your japa story is one of success, not regret.©️ Lisa Agu
