Join us to Promote Face Equality: we need your ideas!

Help to make the world a place where people are treated fairly and equally whatever the appearance of their face or body. Join the University of Westminster to celebrate Face Equality on 26th May.

The University is organising for the first time a Face Equality Day open to all students and staff. The event will take place on Friday 26 May, 11am-4pm, in the Forum of Harrow Campus.

There will be film screenings, competitions, giveaways, advice, cakes and much more.

This year will mark the launch of the first national Face Equality Day in the UK promoted by the charity Changing Faces. The aim of the day is to:

• raise awareness of our unconscious beliefs about bodily disfigurement that can result in prejudice and discrimination
• encourage people, organisations and the government to tackle such beliefs and attitudes and make a commitment to face equality
• help everyone learn new ways of thinking and behaving towards people with disfigurements.

We would like all students to get involved. Make your unique contribution to stop prejudice and discrimination about physical appearance. We are open to any ideas you might have for the event to increase awareness about facial disfigurement and challenge stigma. Options include but are not limited to: create an advertising campaign, design a toy, bake cakes, make a film, create a photo reportage, knitting, design cups, set up a monologue, make a badge…You can use any medium you prefer and be as creative as you wish: video, photo, audio podcast, print articles, posters, ceramic, music, collages, drawings, paintings, fashion, rubber…anything you think can work to make a difference!

The best ideas will be showcased on the day.

Please send out your proposal with a short description of how you would like to get involved to Dr Jacob Johanssen [email protected] and Dr Diana Garrisi [email protected] by 8 April.
