Your first month as a Teaching Assistant 🍎📚
Whether it’s your first ever TA role or you’ve simply started at a new school this September, the first few weeks are all about settling in, building relationships and getting to know how your classroom works.
Here are 5 things to focus on as you find your feet 👇
⏰ 1. Be reliable
Turn up on time, be prepared and be consistent. Reliability is one of the first things schools notice and it goes a long way!
👀 2. Learn the classroom routines
Every teacher and classroom works differently. Pay attention to routines, expectations and transitions so you know where and when you’re needed.
🤝 3. Build relationships
Take the time to get to know the pupils you’re supporting, as well as the teacher and wider school team. Strong relationships make everything easier.
⭐ 4. Show initiative
Once you’re familiar with the classroom, look for ways you can help without always needing to be asked. The best TAs spot what needs doing and get involved.
💬 5. Ask for feedback
You’re not expected to know everything straight away! Ask questions, take feedback on board and use those first few weeks to learn and develop.
Your first month is about learning, adapting and showing the school what you can bring to the team. 🍎✨
