Today's the day when all kids (and let's be honest, some adults too) dive headfirst into St. Nicholas' Day (dzień Świętego Mikołaja) celebrations.
It's an essential slice of Polish Christmas pie! Well-behaved kids wake up to find a treat under their pillow, while the mischievous ones might just discover a twig. So, if you've been hoarding twigs lately, now you know why 😉
If you've got kids, I hope they found something more exciting than last year's lost sock under their pillow today. 😊
Let's face it, kids in December have it better than anyone – it's like a double-dip in the present pool!
Now, let's take a festive detour into who's the VIP of gift-giving in Poland on Christmas. It's like a Christmas character roulette:
Central Poland rolls out the red carpet for Święty Mikołaj (St. Nicholas).
East Poland gets a cool visit from Dziadek Mróz (Father Frost – thanks, eastern neighbors!).
West Poland is star-struck with Gwiazdor (the Celeb Santa).
South-West Poland gets a visit from the ultimate VIP, Dzieciątko (Baby Jesus).
And in South (Galicia), it's a toss-up between Aniołek (little Angel) or Gwiazdka (little Star).

Yesterday, on Saturday, Polword took part in Polish Heritage Picnic in Hammersmith. Weather, despite all the false alarms was ok so we could have lots of fun.
We had an honour to be visited by HM Ambassador of Poland, Mr Arkady Rzegocki and didn't loose the chance to take some pics :-)

We also run a competition and you could win a new fresh course worth of £185 - just for yourself :-)

At 5pm the urn was open and the winner announced. Again, we had an honour to be helped by Vice-Consul, Mr Tomasz Balcerowski who drew the winning ticket.
