Leaders come in all types, shapes and sizes.
One of the previous year’s City Future Leaders summed it up perfectly when they said:
“We all have preconceptions about what attributes a leader has, and especially as students, we believe it to be a series of box-ticking. In practice, if you pay attention to the dynamics and atmosphere, there is always a clear leader who has none of those attributes.”
What kind of leader will you be? Join the Future Leader Experience to find out: https://buff.ly/3pjxg7R
What is leadership? 🤔 With City’s Future Leader Experience on the horizon, it’s been on our minds.
One of last year’s participants on the Future Leaders Experience came away with an enlightening definition. They said: ‘I was able to learn about humility, respect and how to carry people along when presenting’.
Humility. Respect. Carrying people along with you. These are definitely some core leadership skills. 👏👏
We want to hear from other Future Leaders at City. What does ‘leadership’ mean to you? Let us know in the comments.

Today, we’d like to share a success story from one of our alumni.
After graduating, he became a Graduate Corporation Tax Assistant at Arnold Hill and Co LLP.
While at City, he worked closely with our Career Consultant, Helen. He had this to say: ‘Helen and the Careers Team were instrumental in helping me build my CV and write strong cover letters. With the help from the Careers Service, I was able to find exactly the role I was looking for.’
We’re so happy for and proud of him!

We mentioned the ‘Practical Politics’ (IP2052) that helped one of City’s students secure a placement at Disney a couple of days ago.
Well, did you know that this module, led by the Careers and Employability Team, got another student not one, not two but three summer placement offers?
This student already had some relevant internship experience and he used what he learnt from the Practical Politics module to turn that experience into Analyst placement offers from J.P Morgan, Standard Chartered and UK Finance!
He had this to say about the Practical Politics module: “I wanted to thank you for the insights given throughout the Practical Politics module, as I have found them extremely helpful.”
Once again, we’re super happy and proud of his achievement. That’s what we do at the Careers and Employability Team- Help you turn your skills and experience into offers and results.
Did you know that you can schedule mock interviews with the careers service to prepare yourself before the real interview? Our second student in the Succeeding With City series knew.
She arranged a mock interview with one of our expert careers consultants for a year's placement as a Research Assistant role at UCL Great Ormand Street Institute of Child Health.
As a Research Assistant, she had the opportunity to work on projects aiming to improve mental health in young people with mental health needs. This is such valuable work and we’re incredibly proud and happy for her.
Is there a dream job that you have in mind? Let us help you make it a reality! Go to City Careers Hub and book an appointment with a careers consultant.
There’s so much success at City. So many students who have and will achieve great things.
Over the next 5 days, we’re going to take time to celebrate the achievements of our amazing students! Check our socials every day for our ‘Succeeding With City’ stories!
We’ll start today with a 2nd year student who landed a year placement at Disney! She got to bring Disney’s magic to life for millions of people as part of Disney’s Marketing team.
In her 2nd year, she completed ‘Practical Politics’ (IP2052), a core module designed to help students improve their employability delivered by Antonia, one of our super helpful and friendly careers consultants. The student had this to say about her experience: “I wanted to thank you for all the help I received in applying for internships from the IP2052 module, I found your lectures very helpful.”
As a Careers Service, moments like this are what we aim for- Supporting students to achieve their potential. We’re so happy and proud whenever we hear stories like this.
