Many thanks to Craig Ogden for another visit to the Purcell School for Young Musicians. We heard music by Gary Ryan, Fernando Sor, Tarrega, Villa-Lobos, J.K Mertz and Mario Gangi. The guitarists played wonderfully and Craig generously shared his wisdom on interpretation, technique, relaxation and stage craft in a four hour class. Cheers Craig!

A big thank you to Laura Snowden Guitar who weathered the heat and broken trains to give a wonderful extended masterclass at the Purcell School for Young Musicians tonight. She managed to share new perspectives with everyone in performances of Mertz' An Malvina, De Falla's Millers Dance, Albeniz' Asturias, Assad's Jobiniana, Barrios' Vals Op.8 no. 4 and Bach's Chaconne! The students and myself are very grateful and have much to think about 🙏

Incredibly mature performance of Piazzolla's insanely demanding Tango Suite yesterday by Nathaniel Merkies & Rocco Dalcin at their Wigmore Hall debut. To play with such confidence and originality at 17 makes me think they will be visiting this hallowed hall again soon...
Congratulations to Rocco Dalcin & Nathaniel Merkies! Not only did they ace their auditions to the RCM, RAM, RNCM & RSC they have just been chosen to play in the Purcell School's annual chamber music concert at the Wigmore Hall, where they will play Tango Suite by Astor Piazzolla. A wonderful class today at the Purcell School for Young Musicians featuring Gary Ryan sharing his expertise with Rocco Dalcin, Petar Jovanovich and Dorian Voinea.
Purcell was a bit like a field hospital today, with pupils missing the class with covid, norovirus and a sprained wrist - Gary has kindly offered a Zoom class to those players who didn't make it once they are well. In the event we had 2 very different visions of Asturias by Albeniz and an extended exploration of Rodrigo's Aranjuez Concerto.
