📍 Kilburn Grange Adventure Playground!

Back in 2011, we spent 10 weeks working on this awesome landmark project. The site won the coveted Royal Institute of British Architects Award and shows our ability to turn exciting and adventurous concepts into built environments!

The design called for a lot of old doors and windows, a theme repeated throughout the structure. These were all donated and collected over several months😊

The playground is unique because it serves as a play area for the building and adventure playground staff, but also serves as an open and unstaffed public park. The structures are built from renewable treated timber, woven willow, hazel branches and natural English oak (responsibly sourced from the Forestry Commission). The structure includes several treehouses, a nest area, walkways, a slide and a swing. The 1.5m accessible swing was handwoven by the talented Emily Hiller.

The playgrounds that we design and build are safe, but challenging for children and young people, enhancing their physical and emotional development close to home💚

BBC One - DIY SOS, Children in Need Special 2021 24/02/2023

Did you know that you can still catch up on all the magic on BBC iPlayer!?

The BBC Children in Need Special followed the emotional and inspiring journey that our Commander-in-chief John and hundreds of selfless, amazing volunteers embarked on to transform a three-and-a-half acre site of fields and shrub land into a fully-equipped camping site and adventure playground for children and young people from St. Michael's Youth Project in Hull.

APES designed the entire site to give the children of a generation the chance to escape the city landscape and experience the freedom and magic of the British countryside!
