Hello there. I can’t to find an option to contact the school as the website and Facebook seem to lack deaf accessibility... can you let me know? Thanks!
Hi Frank Barnes School!

We saw you had shared a few lovely BSL story telling videos on Facebook. We have started an initiative to encourage everyone to keep reading throughout the lockdown period with the hashtag . Is there any chance you can please share a few of your wonderful BSL videos to our page?

We want kids, adults and teachers involved, then to challenge each other at the end of the videos and tag in their friends - like the ice bucket challenge but with books!

Many thanks and keep up the great work!

Thursday 6th July 2023
During Deaf Studies, Gasholders class were very lucky to be joined by Mandy Docker, one of the duo of sisters that owns Deaf Chef. She came in to lead a healthy cooking session with the children. The children made 3 yummy healthy dips to accompany some fruit- Chocolate Yoghurt, Strawberry Cheesecake and Peanut Butter dip.
Mandy explained about her job and her journey with her sister setting up their new food truck. It was amazing for the children to meet great Deaf role models and to remind them that they can do anything they want to in life and deafness is NOT A barrier.

Monday 10th July
We held our annual football tournament at Market Place Road and were joined by other Deaf schools, including Blanche Neville Primary and Knightsfield School. It was a hot day but the children did so well and played some good matches. The football pitches were brilliant and it was so good to see other Deaf children signing and playing sport together. Well done to Blanche Neville for winning the whole tournament. Kery from Frank Barnes won the Best Player of the Tournament award.

In Gasholders class we learned the history of pride and why we are learning about it today. Pride is about embracing diversity, equality and inclusion, something we are very passionate about at Frank Barnes. We also agreed that equality should be for all regardless of gender, race, religion, disability and we should be kind to everyone everyday and not just for June.

In Literacy we have been immersed into the world of Ronald Dahl and his book ‘Witches’! We learned about Ronald Dahl’s life by visiting his museum, reading the first chapter of the book retrieving information about how to identify a witch and making a ‘wanted’ poster of a witch.
This morning we discussed the features we could see on a typical wanted poster and we will be making our own! The children dressed up as a witch using green screen and this week we will be compiling information from what we have learned and include them on the poster. Why are all the girls dressed as a witch? Because witches are female. Can you answer this question- what do they call the male version of a witch? Type in comments below!

The children made costumes linked to the backstage skills lesson. They used felt fabrics and different materials to made their own costumes. Their costumes are amazing.

Yesterday, we had Christopher and James from Museum of London in our school as part of our Great Fire of London art project.
We had a fun quiz to recap on our knowledge and then for our 1st art session, we had to create a self portrait using cut out paper in different colours. The children really enjoyed themselves.

Watch out for our art work in the next 4 weeks!
