As we go into the Bank Holiday, Airline Captain Rose took the children on an aviation adventure around the globe! ✈️🌍

At Snazzy Seahorse Airlines, they all checked in their luggage and set off to explore the world. 🧳🌎

There was even some wonderful inflight entertainment with the story ‘Topsy & Tim Go on an Aeroplane’. 📖✈️

Captain Rose & the Seahorse Southfields Team brought to life:

We had another super visit from one of our parents this week, who came in to share their career with us. This brings our Jobs and Professions topic to a lovely close for this term.

Network Rail Operations Director Tamzin and her colleague Jamie brought the legendary Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends to nursery as part of Rail Safe Wessex. Then, there was a fabulous rail safety bag that reflects at night, containing two Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends safety books and a water bottle.

We’re delighted to be hosting our first parent event at Seahorse Nursery Earlsfield tomorrow, Friday 21 August!

Our founder, principal and operations team met with Community Playthings UK who create the beautiful, high-quality solid-wood furniture and play equipment that will feature throughout our Earlsfield nursery.

We’ve worked with Community Playthings across our four settings for nearly 30 years. We value real wood for its versatility and natural beauty, as well as the calm, welcoming environment it helps create for children.

We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome our first families to Seahorse Nursery Earlsfield tomorrow!

✨🌳Forest School 🪻✨

Forest School is a brilliant part of what Seahorse has to offer! We love getting the children outside as much as possible; Forest School is a great place for children to learn about being outside and allows them to explore and take supported risks. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner-inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.

This week, 3 of our Preschool practitioners are attending a Forest School Learning Initiative (FSLI) Forest School Training Level 3. It is a 5-day programme at the Apples and Honey Nightingale bespoke course.

We are so excited for the team to bring back what they have learned this week to share with the children, different ways to explore the world!

✨Seaturtles shopping✨

The Wimbledon Park Seaturtles took a trip to the local shops to look at some fruit for their afternoon snack! They looked at many different types of fruit and vegetables and learned about purchasing these items. They were also able to identify colours, numbers, and their favourite types of foods and drinks.

✨Let's Go Shopping!✨

Our Starfish room had a fun time shopping at their roleplay market; they were able to buy some of their favourite toys while we counted out coins and roleplayed being in a shop with them. We talked about money, numbers, and colours! The children had so much fun being able to buy their toys!

✨🎶 We love singing with our children!🎤✨

The goal for our children is for them to know 8 nursery rhymes by the time they graduate from the Seahorse Room. We find it is a great way to help children exercise their brains and practice their recall. As well as helping them with their reading and writing skills!

The original academic research, Maclean, Bryant, & Bradley (1987), "Rhymes, Nursery Rhymes, and Reading in Early Childhood"
The research concluded that nursery rhymes are a great way for children to have better phonological awareness (awareness of the sounds in words)

The reason reading skills improve is that nursery rhymes, rhyming patterns, recognising syllables, noticing beginning and ending sounds, remembering sound sequences, learning new vocabulary, and developing oral language all contribute.
