Never a bad time to book guitar lessons
The Music Tutor - Guitar Lessons in Leytonstone
Music is my passion, I've taught guitar in London full-time for 6 yrs. I'm thrilled to pass my knowl
Have you been told to work from home? Avoid restaurants, pubs and public transport? In this kind of situation it can be harder to keep up with your musical ambitions, but there is a silver lining in spending more time at home. With more down-time there is actually a great opportunity to invest more time learning music!
Jazz musicians call it 'shedding', i.e. locking yourself in the woodshed to take a deep dive into learning something new. If you'd like to use the time productively, I can offer my years of online and in-person teaching experience so you'll know exactly how and what to practice, and enjoy doing it!
As well as traditional face-to-face lessons, I have taught literally hundreds of domestic and international online students via Skype as well as Adobe Connect.
I highly recommend using Adobe Connect, which you can use for free, all you have to do is create an account and download the software. With Adobe Connect I can use multiple camera angles (to better demonstrate on the fretboard), as well as using multimedia including prepared pdf notes and audio files. However, if you prefer to keep it simple and use Skype or any other platform, that can work very well, too!
In general, online lessons can be more convenient and can also have their own unique benefits:
- Regular appointments will give you targets and deadlines to practice towards.
- For younger students, behaviour and concentration can improve compared to traditional in-person lessons (thanks to the student feeling ‘on show’ / on screen, the factor of video calling their teacher, and the sense of maturity/responsibility that can generate)
- Multiple camera angles and close-ups on the fretboard allow for very clear demonstrations.
- Multimedia can be used to great effect including audio files and pdf notes which I will have prepared in advance.
- It’s also a great chance to work on things like music theory and ear training, which really suit the online lesson scenario, and otherwise can go neglected.
Let me know if you'd like to book a free trial lesson or if you have any questions! Of course, I do still offer in-person lessons too, with the appropriate precautions taken following the virus disruption.
Thanks and I look forward to meeting you soon!
Cheers,
Rory
When you start learning guitar, don't make short cuts you'll regret later. Don't avoid using your pinky finger for chords and scales otherwise you'll learn NOT to use it.
Don't let imperfection stop you from playing. The more you learn, the more you'll play, and the more you play, the better you'll sound.
The best way to get good at chords and chord changes is to learn a lot of songs. Don't wait until your chords sound perfect or you'll never use them! Start learning songs and the kinks will naturally work themselves out.
