Want to know how Commonwealth Scholars give back to their local communities?

Last weekend, Commonwealth Scholars in the North East region partnered with Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust for a volunteering day at Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve.

Together with local volunteers, Scholars supported ongoing conservation efforts at the reserve by taking part in hedge maintenance, mulching, pathway clearing, and habitat restoration. After a busy morning on the reserve, Scholars also joined a community lunch to get to know their fellow volunteers.

Thank you to the Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust and CSC's Regional Network Coordinator Ikram Sadiq for organising the day – and well done to all the Scholars who took part!

Yesterday, we brought together our incredible community of Commonwealth Scholars studying in the UK for a celebration of ideas and impact at the QEII Centre in London.

Connect and Collaborate 2026 showed why Commonwealth Scholars are not only exceptional students – they are the leaders and changemakers shaping a better future for us all.

We were delighted to hear from inspiring speakers, including Minister Chris Elmore MP from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Hon Shirley Botchwey, Secretary-General of The Commonwealth, and Professor Daniella Tilbury, the UK Government National Focal Point at the UNECE.

Thank you to all our guests and partners who helped make this celebration so special. Through your ongoing support, we’re creating opportunities where ambition can thrive, and individuals can truly make a difference.

Congratulations to every one of our Scholars. You've connected, collaborated, and shown your dedication to improving the lives of others. We can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next! 🚀

Last week, we were delighted join a special reception for Commonwealth Alumni at the British High Commission Accra alongside leaders from the Ghanaian business community and our new Commonwealth Startup Fellows.

The evening was all about innovation and impact – showcasing how Commonwealth Scholarships have transformed lives and opened doors for collaboration and growth across the Commonwealth.

Our highlights included the inspiring words by Deputy High Commissioner Keith McMahon MBE and Dr John Obeng Apea, Head of Mission - Ghana for the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council. We were also thrilled to meet Commonwealth Alumnus Alexander Tetteh, a true champion for entrepreneurship and disability empowerment in Ghana.

A huge thanks to Keith McMahon MBE and the UK in Ghana for hosting this event.
