Did you join me for the behind the scenes live for the cheese and meat grazing board? Let me know in the comments?
Unfortunately 3/4 of the way through there was a glitch and we lost connection and the recording. So we only have part of the live on IGTV!
Would you like me to do a reel with my top tips on styling a grazing board for photographing?
Here are some photos of the finished styled shoot - what do you think?
Thanks

Food is so nostalgic- it can take you back in time, the memory so strong that it’s almost like you were there once again!
This Kenyan fried chicken is my Mums recipe and one that I love.
It reminds me of summers in the garden with my cousins, us all sitting on the concrete bench in a line eating this chicken on paper plates. The sun so strong we had the awning down.
In the background you could hear my aunts and uncles talking and laughing.
They were great memories, memories I cherish because they made me who I am today.
My parents were from Kenya and came to the UK with nothing, they were one of the first from their families to move from the UK. They didn’t have any close family and when others came to the love in the UK from Kenya - Mum and Dad provided support to help them settle in. So we always had plenty of people visiting and staying with us - which meant that Mum was always cooking up new delights.
What food / dish reminds you of a childhood memory? I’d love for you to share in the comments?
Im going to leave you with this quote:
"If you really want to make a friend, go to someone's house and eat with him...the people who give you their food give you their heart." Cesar Chavez

Light light light!
Lighting is the foundation for photography and video. Want to make your food look as good as it tastes?
Then you need to learn how to master and manipulate light - this can help you to achieve such different effects and moods in your photos and videos.
Next time you photograph - video your food use these top 3 tips:
1. Use natural light
2. Shoot where the light is soft and diffused (think if the light you get on a cloudy day)
3. Switch off any artificial lights you have.
Let me know how you get on in the comments and if you have any questions I’ll be more then happy to answer them :-) These are some photos from today’s shoot for - can’t wait to share the stop motion we did for them!

Do you struggle when using props let me know in the comments?
So many of you have asked me about using props for when taking photos and videos of your food.
Here are a few tips:
1. Choose props that works with the food your photographing / filming.
2. Choose props that fit with the overall theme and style - they also need to work with need your brand.
3. Choose props that help you to tell a food story.
4. Choose props that don’t distract from the main event - your food! They support the food.
5. Props can include - backdrops / backgrounds, crockery, cutlery, glassware, equipment, utensils, linen and ingredients.
6. Start with introducing 1 prop then as you get more confident you can build on this.
Any questions in regards to props let me know in the comments?
On this shoot I kept it simple - and used some crockery, cutlery and ingredients including condiments. To soften the setup I used some linen. This was for a shoot for and I can’t wait to share the video :-)
The box came well packaged snd was easy to put together and was so tasty - the broth which was vegan was so flavourful. We loved it! Thank you :-)
Enjoy!

Have you thought about using white / negative space in your food photographs? Let me know in the comments?
Sometimes in life we try to fill in too much and this applies to food photographs as well!
Having some space is always good in life and in photography!
In photography this is referred to as white space or negative space - so empty space around an object / background.
Having negative space can help to draw attention to the food and you can use the negative space to add graphics ie. a call to action.
Tag us in any photos that you use negative space.
