Last Saturday, the winning team from the EWB UCL Design Challenge went on to compete in the National EWB Chapter Design Challenge, hosted at the University of Birmingham, where they developed solutions aimed at supporting marginalised communities of the Torres Strait Islanders in Cape York. Competing against EWB chapters from other Russell Group universities, we are proud to share that our team was awarded a Highly Commended distinction. Congratulations to the UCL team on this fantastic achievement, and the continued drive for real world, sustainable problem solving—we look forward to next year’s Design Challenge.

A huge congratulations to the winners of our first-ever EWB-UCL Design Challenge Hackathon, who will be acting as project leads for the national EWB Design Challenge next year!
Each and every solution was brilliant and uniquely developed by each group, with thoughtful and sustainable recommendations throughout. A huge congratulations as well to everyone who participated — the quality of ideas and effort shown across all teams was outstanding.
And a huge thank you to our judges for generously sharing their expertise and time, asking insightful and important questions, engaging so thoughtfully with participants, and helping us all learn something new.
Well done to everyone involved! 🎉
