What could this mean for North Northamptonshire schools and pupils?

The reported move away from the PE & Sport Premium towards a new partnerships network raises important questions locally.

Across North Northants, many schools rely on PE & Sport Premium funding to support PE provision, staff CPD, physical activity programmes, clubs, competitions, inclusion work and opportunities for disadvantaged pupils.

Government data shows schools across North Northamptonshire currently receive over £2.1m in PE & Sport Premium funding. (skillsfunding.service.gov.uk)

Any changes must not lead to reduced investment, increased workload for education staff, or a postcode lottery in access to sport and physical activity.

Schools need clarity, sustainable funding and genuine partnership working not another reform without the resources to make it succeed.

For our children and young people in North Northamptonshire, PE, physical activity and school sport matter for health, wellbeing, confidence, attendance and inclusion.

The National Education Union will be watching developments closely and advocating for properly funded, equitable provision for all schools and pupils.

📢 Save Education – Indicative Ballot Launch

Today (Saturday 28 February), the NEU has launched our indicative ballot on pay, funding and workload as part of our national Save Education campaign.

If you are a teacher or support staff member working in a state-maintained school in England, and are eligible to vote, you should receive your secure voting link by email and text message from around 11am today.

Our schools are at breaking point. Years of underfunding are placing enormous pressure on staff, pupils and school budgets and unfunded pay rises risk becoming the final straw for an already stretched education system.
