Savile Row did not become what it is through advertising. It became what it is through hands.

For more than two hundred years, bespoke tailoring here has been passed from one person to another, master to apprentice, at the board, by demonstration and correction. No manual. No shortcut. A skill handed over in person, or not handed over at all.

That is how it survived, and it is the only way it survives now.

At the Savile Row Bespoke Academy we teach the craft as it was taught to us: by hand, in the workroom, under the eye of a master tailor. Our students are not taking a course. They are being trained as craftspeople, in the tradition that made this street, and they carry it forward when they leave.

A legacy is not preserved by being admired. It is preserved by being practised.

Today, a new group begins.

Their first day at the Savile Row Bespoke Academy, on the Bespoke Tailoring and Cutting course.

It starts where it has always started: foundation and hand-sewing. Before any garment is drafted or cut, the hand has to be trained. The needle, thread, thimble, and the stitches everything else depends on.

It looks modest. It is anything but. The control learned in these first days is what makes a clean line possible later, and it stays in the hands for the rest of a tailor's working life.

From there, they move on to trousers and waistcoat.

We look forward to seeing what they make of it.

If you have set your heart on learning bespoke tailoring in London, there is a route that leads directly to Savile Row.

The Academy is fully BAC-accredited, taught at 9-10 Savile Row by working craftsmen, and open to students from anywhere in the world, our short courses welcome international students on a standard visitor visa, with no university application process to navigate.

Applications for 2027/28 are open now and interviews begin in January.

Seven passports. One workroom. ✂️

They came to No. 9–10 Savile Row this summer from Thailand, India, America, Poland, Italy, Mexico and Brazil. strangers to each other, but not to the pull of the craft.

Here they learned the way it has always been taught on this street: standing beside a master, cloth in hand. What began as chalk lines became structure, then a garment fitted to a person. Along the way, the lessons that cannot be read in a book, when to trust the hand over the measurement, why patience is a technical skill.

As this cohort closes their intensive, we prepare to welcome the next generation of cutters and tailors.

A certificate is often seen as the finish line. For a tailor, it's something different.

It's the reminder of every pattern drafted, every fitting adjusted, every seam unpicked, and every lesson that demanded a little more patience than the last.

No one sees those moments. They only see the certificate.

But every graduate knows that the real achievement isn't what's framed on the wall. It's the skill, discipline, and confidence they've built along the way. And that's something they'll carry for the rest of their career.

Every student begins with the same question:

"Will this fit?"

The answer isn't guesswork.

It's found in accurate measurements, carefully drafted patterns, and understanding how the body moves. A sleeve that's too tight, a jacket that pulls across the back, a collar that refuses to sit correctly, each challenge has a reason, and every reason has a solution.

Throughout our seven-week Summer Course, students learn to diagnose fitting issues, refine master patterns, and develop the technical skills that form the foundation of bespoke tailoring.

Because creating a beautifully fitted garment isn't about luck.It's about understanding the craft behind every measurement, every adjustment, and every decision.
