Sensory play ASMR

This is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about early years education 🤍

I love simply observing how children play, exploring different textures, experimenting with materials, and learning through their senses.

From kitchen foil and bubble wrap to semolina and pasta, every texture offers a new discovery and experience.

Sensory play may look simple, but these little moments are supporting curiosity, confidence, language, fine motor skills, and brain development all through play.

Seeing the satisfaction and joy on their faces as they touch, squish, crinkle, and explore is honestly one of the most rewarding parts of working in early years

With the hot weather this week, our children enjoyed cooling down through fun water play and sensory exploration outdoors! ☀️💧

Using scoops, droppers, bottles, and cups, the children were busy pouring, squeezing, pinching, scooping, spraying, and transferring water while strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers — essential for early writing development and pencil control. ✍️✨

Water play encourages children to: 💧 develop fine motor skills
💧 strengthen hand and finger muscles
💧 improve hand-eye coordination
💧 practise control and concentration
💧 explore problem-solving and creativity
💧 build independence and confidence
The children loved experimenting with: 🌊 filling and emptying
🌊 twisting and opening
🌊 gripping and pouring
🌊 squeezing bottles
🌊 transferring water between containers
These playful moments are more than just fun — they are important learning experiences that support early mark-making, writing readiness, and sensory development through hands-on exploration. 🖍️
