We’ve passed a real milestone as we grow to become an all-through Steiner school for 3-18 years and have received formal accreditation from the Steiner Education Development Trust that Greenwich Steiner School is now an official provider of the Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE).
Our Class 10 will begin studying the 3-year academic qualification this coming September 2021. The Certificate of Steiner Education has already been accepted by UK university admissions as an equivalent to A-Levels and International Baccalaureate. It gives students aged 15-18 a broad and integrated Steiner curriculum graded using continuous assessment rather than end-of-year exams.

UK Universities including Bristol, Durham, York and Manchester have already offered places to Steiner students to study subjects ranging from Aerospace Engineering, Maths and Physics to Psychology, Politics, English and Drama.

Over the period of our online learning , Class 9 have collaboratively created this audio drama. It was a great opportunity to make use of working together online whilst we were apart.

With the help from Michael they created an audio drama inspired by the German “Die drei ???” Audio drama.

The process began with deciding a theme, followed by an English transcript and finally working out the German translation.
Once the roles where decided, everyone started recording their lines. Afterwards we tidied it all up, adjusted the volume, echoes, sound clarity and added background sounds.

All students worked on different parts of this audio drama and made it come together beautifully.

As the project went on for longer than expected, we didn’t have time to fine tune our accents - a task for our the next project !
Well done to class 9 for creating this piece of work!

Yesterday more than 100 children and staff came together on google meet for a spring assembly. The highlights of the assembly were our class 4 teacher leading the singing of "Spring has now unwrapped the flowers" and children from classes 1 to 9 reciting the poem "The first signs of Spring" by Emile Pinet. Mr Dow also shared photos of the flowers in the school garden.

I hope you enjoy the video.
Do you know this man? At 11.44 today he stole a bicycle belonging to our wonderful class 4 teacher from right outside our school, using boltcutters to break the lock. The bicycle is a Raleigh Motus ebike with a bosch motor.

CLASS 8 PLATONIC SOLIDS

As we know from Plato, the Greeks thought that God created the Universe as a perfect being, in the form of the most perfect of shapes: the sphere. Within the Universe are the elements of fire, air, water, earth, and the life element, or quintessence. These were created using the five regular solids: fire with the tetrahedron, air with the octahedron, water with the icosahedron, and earth with the hexahedron (cube). Finally, the life element was created using the dodecahedron.

Plato studied these regular solid forms at his Academy: it was part of the study of Stereometry, which means, "The putting together of the cosmic figures." He also studied Arithmetic, Geometry, and Astronomy.

The Class 8 main lesson on the Platonic Solids was challenging and very enjoyable. The students learnt to construct the nets of each of the five Platonic Solids using a compass; a task which demanded a high level of focus and accuracy. They had the experience of meditating on one particular solid and, through focused mental picturing, taking it through a series of described transformations, until it had become a different Platonic Solid. The students created the solid forms out of clay and out of their own paper nets. Using thin sticks, they also made skeleton forms of the Platonic Solids, and were able to investigate the interesting fact that the Platonic Solids can nest within each other. As part of this topic, we also looked at the Archimedean Solids, Euler's Law, and Kepler's theory of the Universe as it relates to the Platonic Solids, outlined in his book, Mysterium Cosmographicum.

The students' work shows not only the precision and accuracy of their geometry, but also their creativity, evident in the way that they illustrated their forms, and in the compositions of their poems, inspired by "The Elements", by W.H. Davies.
Mud, mud, glorious mud!

All parents have questions about a healthy approach to protecting their children and preparing them for their own sexuality. This may be difficult as children could become sexualised at a young age, and parents have concerns on how to protect them from sexualising influences.
How can we prepare children for what feelings arise through their own sexual development and what influences may come to them from the world out there?

Dr Tessabella Lovemore will speak about some of the ways we can prepare children to be safe, as well as find their way comfortably into their sexuality when the time comes.

Dr Tessabella Lovemore is Education Consultant, Counsellor, and Trainer in Anthroposophical Psychotherapy. She taught in Rudolf Steiner Waldorf Schools for 20 years and since 1996 she has been specialising in behaviour, learning and relationships.

Tessabella has a wealth of knowledge covering Children’s Development, Learning and Behaviour as well as childhood Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress.
Classes 6, 7, 8 & 9 (ages 11-15) performed the South African lullaby Noyana in a recent assembly.

Dear Friends ,

It is with great delight and excitement that I can inform you that the DFE and Ofsted have approved our application for a material change to allow us to start our Upper School in September.

As some of you may already know, we will be following the New Zealand Steiner Certificate of Education model.

I should be most grateful if you would share this information with your school community, especially those in the higher classes, so that they know that there is a Steiner Upper School in South East London.

With warmest wishes to you all and immense gratitude for all the support that you have already given to us,

Our main qualification at GSS is the NCSE which is formally recognised by all universities in the United Kingdom. However to teach our students the skills of retention; interleaving; exam technique; we have introduced two GCSEs only into our package - English and Maths. Today was a historic moment for GSS as 5 of our Upper School students took their first national formal; external examination. It’s been wonderful to have the support of Michael Hall School; where the students are taking the exam. Mr Osborne and the whole GSS team are super proud. 19/05/2023
