Celebrating a longstanding collaboration between and 🤝
On Saturday 25 May, UCL School of Management hosted a public lecture in with the National School of Development at Peking University (PKU). The event attracted over 120 professionals, media representatives, current students, alumni, and prospective students, with an additional 300 attendees joining online. It marks another milestone in our longstanding collaboration with PKU and our PKU-UCL MBA programme.
UCL School of Management Professor Davide Ravasi and Associate Professor Michael Manlangit, along with PKU academics Professor Lixing Li and Professor Junni Zhang, discussed the topic “Artificial Intelligence and Our New Era” (人工智能與我們的時代), with UCL School of Management Professor Alan Parkinson serving as chair and moderator.
The discussions were diverse, covering AI's impact on employment, urban planning, bias, and academic integrity. From considering employment prospects to reflecting on ethical dilemmas, the conversation provided insightful prompts for navigating AI's role in shaping our future such as ‘Would we be happy to leave decisions in the literally virtual hands of AI?’
We extend our special thanks to all our guests and partners, especially Mary Ma, Kelvin Bin Yu, and Yao Yao, for making this event a success.

The recent UK-Swiss entrepreneurship exchange programme has been hugely successful for UCL and EPFL entrepreneurs 🇬🇧 🇨🇭
Ten startups had the chance to learn, connect and explore new opportunities. Five are supported by EPFL Startup, and five are part of the Hatchery incubator programme at BaseKX, UCL’s dedicated entrepreneurship hub. The UCL participants were MedQ, TIE Cast, Your Cue, Phyta Biodesign and Scentient, and from EPFL, BoundaryAi, Unki, Myriad Optics, and NEOSENS.
Both universities have thriving entrepreneurial ecosystems. EPFL’s startup ecosystem has produced over 500 startups operating in Europe and beyond, raising over £410 million in 2024. Over 500 new student startup businesses were founded at UCL between 2014 and 2023. Collectively they’ve raised over £360 million and employ more than 2,000 people [HEBCI 2014-2023].
Anastasia Georgievskaya from Scentient explained how beneficial the programme was: "The exchange programme was one of the most productive and successful programmes Scentient's team has participated in. The benefits of this programme are immense, from building a network in Switzerland, fostering new potential partnerships, to team and community building within UCL’s own startups...We're going back to Switzerland next month to continue the productive conversations and hopefully begin establishing lasting partnerships."
