The benefits of studying a heritage language go far deeper than just a career boost; by retaining our native languages we are reinforcing a link to our homelands that would otherwise be lost in the shuffle of acculturation. People are unified through native culture; they want to preserve it and pass it onto their children; culture is a key component of our language course. Pakistanis first started

settling here in 1960s now overall population in London alone is over 200,000 and although it’s a huge population yet our heritage language is beginning to vanish except for in new immigrants. As part of my research in University of London I studied how language has shifted in the past two generations and how mother tongue has been replaced by English. My passion being a Linguist is to build a generation that is bilingual; for our children to know the culture of Muslims and their own heritage. Ethnic community organizations are instrumental in developing the language proficiency in our children. I call upon their support in achieving the bilingual generation of Pakistanis. Easy Urdu needs strategic guidance and managed involvement from the Asian community in order to revitalize Urdu in our community. Primary age Linguistic experience modifies language organs structure hence makes it easier to learn a language and retain. As an initial step I have offered free language club at my Childrens School, involved parents and Celebrated Pakistan day. After raising awareness I have now started a club once a week where children come in after lunch and learn Urdu. We communicate only in Urdu; we are building vocabulary and learning in fun way about our roots both in culture and religion in our own language. As a qualified Linguist I have developed a resource and curriculum outline that I follow; and with continued support and involvement I hope to have a group of our children as comfortable with communicating in Urdu as in English, able to understand art, literature and poetry, share jokes, know their ancestral language and culture that comes with it. I have a training programme for teachers and we can provide various schools teachers trained in running the particular colloquial Urdu programme. A different language is a different vision of life.

Easy Urdu- London 2023 Course.

Urdu Level 1

How long does the course last?
The length of each part depends on the type of language course.
Evening Language Courses: Lessons take place once a week over 10 weeks and last 40 mins each.

Saturday Language Course: Lessons take place once a week over 5 weeks and last 1 hour each.

Summer Fast-track Language Courses: Lessons take place twice a week during summer school holidays and last 1 hour each.

Summer Intensive Language Courses: Lessons take place 5 times a week and last 1 hour each.

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at a wide range of students with a general interest in Urdu. No prior knowledge of Urdu is required as the course is for complete beginners.

What are the objectives of the course?
To acquire basic language skills.

By the end of the course you will:
• be able to communicate in very basic everyday-life situations, including greetings, daily activities, finding your way, telling the time and date, making simple purchases, ordering a meal, etc

• be able to understand very simple oral and written texts and ascertain specific information on simple topics

• have developed an insight into Urdu-speaking life, culture and society

How is the course taught?
A communicative approach is used. All four skills (speaking, reading, listening and writing) are practised, with the main emphasis on speaking.

Students engage in interactive language activities, participating in group and pair work according to a syllabus based on systematic grammatical progression.
