Queen's College London
Queen's is an independent day school for girls between the ages of 11 and 18.
Operating as usual

Before the Easter Holidays, our I Senior Politics students took their learning outside of the classroom, visiting the Houses of Parliament and Supreme Court. It was the perfect chance to apply their learning to lessons to real world situations. Eloise reflected on their trip, and the impact it will have on her studies:
"We had an excellent tour of Parliament, exploring the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and Westminster Hall. It was fascinating to see these historic spaces in person and connect them to what we've learned in our Politics lessons. We even spotted some famous MPs - well, Gavin Williamson! After this, we crossed the road to the Supreme Court, where we explored its engaging museum and enjoyed a visit to the gift shop. Overall, it was a highly insightful and enjoyable day."

Meet Rosalind Franklin - a brilliant chemist and X-ray crystallographer whose ground-breaking work was key to discovering the structure of DNA.
In a time when women in science were often overlooked, her determination and brilliance broke barriers and paved the way for generations of female scientists.
At Queen's, we have honoured her incredible impact by naming one of our houses after her, so that girls today can continue to learn about her remarkable work, and take inspiration from her pioneering story.

Don't miss out on our Jazz Evening this Friday!
We are delighted to have booked a pro band and be working once again with Sean McWilliams.
The event is in the Somerville Hall at 7.30pm - your ticket not only includes a fantastic concert of jazz to enjoy, but a buffet and drinks too.

Last term in the Modern Languages department, our C3 pupils (Year 7) learned about the French April Fool's tradition known as "Poisson d'Avril." People in France play practical jokes on each other, much like April Fools' Day in the UK. A unique aspect of "Poisson d'Avril" is the tradition of sticking paper fish onto people's backs without them noticing. When the prank is discovered, the prankster shouts "Poisson d'Avril!" Pupils learned about this element of French culture class during their topic of "Fête et festivals" and decorated their own paper fish to carry out the tradition during lunchtime. As you can imagine, our teachers ended up with quite a few fish on their backs!

🌲 Happy Earth Day from the Queen’s gardening club!🌲
On this day in 1970, the very first Earth Day sparked a global movement — and this term at Queen's, we're doing our bit by taking care of our very own herb garden. With the sun now shining on our courtyard, Eco & Gardening Club will be meeting weekly to help the garden be sustainable and thrive, as well as ensuring our school stays green 💚

As another busy term at Queen's gets started, we're looking forward to so many exciting opportunities over the coming term. Between Academic Festival, Trips & Activities Day, Sports Day, the Jazz Concert and specialist workshops across the curriculum, we can't wait to get stuck in!

Wishing everyone in the Queen's Community a very happy Easter Weekend! 🐣

This term we enjoyed the spectacular whole school production of The Red Shoes - a unique and striking performance which combined theatre, dance and music.
Drama has always been a important part of life at Queen's, with girls across the decades enjoying being a part of school productions. Many of our alumnae tell us stories of happy memories from school plays, performed in our historic Somerville Hall. The earliest evidence of this we can find dates all the way back to 1898, when Queen's pupils performed Twelfth Night, displayed in this incredible photos from our archives.

Fun, food, facts and friendships - elements that we can promise at our Year 5 Taster day on 23 June.
Your daughter can join for the day, and even enjoy a pizza party as she discovers more about life at Queen's College London.

Introducting Florence, our Scholar of the Week:
My name is Florence and I am in C1. My first piece of work is an article I wrote last year about a
famous pianist, Pollini. I chose to write about Pollini because I am extremely passionate about
piano and Pollini had recently passed away so I wrote this to commemorate his influential career
as one of the greatest pianists of all time.
My second piece of work is taken from a PowerPoint I created all about the Fibonacci
Sequence in nature and the arts. I have always been interested in the way that maths and
the natural world connect so I decided to research into it further and was amazed about what
I found out!
You can read more about Florence's work here!https://mcusercontent.com/38f4deb86f63b2a2f10ca8771/files/5bdf9a12-f258-e266-ebd4-c612516dbcbf/Florence.01.pdf

Can you solve our Maths Puzzle of the Week? Give it a go!

This Founder's Day Mr Tillett's address focussed on the incredible work and heritage of two Queen's alumnae - Dorothea Beale and Frances Mary Buss. As two of the earliest students at the College, both women were inspired to open up opportunities for young women across London, and played a fundamental part in establishing education as a fundamental right for all girls. Here are the closing words of the address:
‘My sisters and I owe much to Queen’s College’, wrote Dorothea Beale. Well, we owe much to them, and we stand on their shoulders. ‘To Dorothea Beale, as to Frances Mary Buss, the opening of Queen’s College was the beginning of an epoch’, writes their biographer, Josephine Kamm. Well, their work too was the beginning of an epoch for the rights of girls in this country.
This school blazed a trail for these women to go on and be the pioneers of female education that they were. They in turn blazed a trail for the creation of hundreds of girls’ schools. Now it’s up to you, the pupils, to blaze your trail in whatever walk of life awaits you.

We are inviting Year 5 to get to know Queen's and experience a day in the life of a pupil at our special taster day!
Whether it's exploring the scientific world with our new state-of-the-art microscope, diving into math activities, or learning a lively dance routine with our Cheer Club, we can promise it will be a day filled with learning and excitement. We’d love to welcome you, and show you all that Queen's has to offer you and your daughter.
