My student Andre working on a mobility exercise I learned from . The left hand plays groups of 3 and the right hand plays groups of 4. Andre is playing single strokes on his double pedal to add a layer of complexity.

Some shots of my studio. I have my main kit and teaching kit as well as my studio mates drum set. Literally surrounded by drums.

Some pictures from a rehearsal for a new project at
The kits are great here and cymbals are provided. It’s a great place to rehearse.
The air conditioning was a welcome bonus 😊
First picture is my weapon of choice: 3a fatback.

Some close ups of my cymbals (and one of my face 😂😂) I have played for as long as I can remember. I slowly assembled this collection over about 10 years and I have yet to have a breakage in 20 years or so. The cymbals are all the HHX series and the crashes are signature. Hands down the best crashes I have ever played. They record like a dream.

What my feet see 😂😂.
Here is a view of my pedal setup. I’m using a eliminator double lefty with the blue (medium) cam. The beaters are set to 45 degrees and the spring tension is moderate to low.
The red thing you can see on the chain is the SnapMaster. This little device gives a softness to the pedal action and assists rebound. It’s not expensive and well worth checking out.
I’m not usually a fan of gizmos but this attachment actually makes a worthwhile difference.

I’ve heard really good things about so when it was time to re-head my Orion I asked to order me a set of single ply coated batter heads (10,12,16,14) and the requisite resonant heads.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how they sound. I have high hopes 😊
I also picked up a brick of 3a fatback’s. Having tried out pair and loving them I have invested in many pairs!

Practice today was in my shed with my trusty real feel practice pad and my vic firth Thomas Lang signature sticks. As you can see they have endured quite a few rimshots…

Non drumming post:
After being ill for three weeks I finally managed to get a decent training session in today and hit a press PR of 71 kg to boot. This is after a stall at 69 of two months.
It goes up when it’s ready. (Name of your s*x tape) 😜

Applied 13/16 linear:
I composed this sequence to help me musically apply some grooves I have been working on. I put together two versions of a linear groove (you may remember them from my A or B post a few weeks back) and composed a bass line and chord progression to accompany.
It’s actually turned into a full fledged fusion song.
If I can find a guitarist abs bassist who can tackle these sorts of things I may well record it with a band! 😊
