There are conflicting views on the reopening of schools. What do you think about children in nursery, reception, year 1 and year 6 returning to school on 1st June?

Totally agree. Some schools spend far too much time forcing children to write - on lined paper, I may add 🙀instead of teaching them the joy of writing and giving them a reason to WANT to write.

➡️ Parents it is so important to allow your child to develop early independence skills.

➡️ skills such as independent thought, problem solving, resilience and persistence are the prerequisite for ALL learning

➡️ develop these skills first and the phonics, writing, numbers, etc will come

I miss teaching in nurseries and Children Centres where you could actually take the time to have meaningful conversations. Where an adult took pleasure in modelling language use and the children asked interesting questions to gain more information.
I miss laughing and joking with children, just because we could.
I miss being relaxed with children and talking about whatever interests them:whether it be the world they are impacting on or the family event they enjoyed the weekend before.
Teaching has become a drag for many, who prefer to abandon the careers they love as it is no longer enjoyable and they too, have been chipped away by the endless need to 'fit in'.
Our profession has taken over our lives making work-life a buzz word we have no connection with.
By the time our four and five year olds leave their reception year, they are well on their way to becoming perfect little robots stamped with a serial number that says "40-60", "30-50" or "ELG" or "achieved".
We are no longer interested in who they are. Rather, whether they fit into the 'National Norms' just empty shells of their former selves.
I feel it's a sad day for Early Years...

Any opportunity to chat to a student and see how they are is now seen as a wasted learning opportunity, writes one primary veteran

More and more people are speaking out against the government’s plans to test all four-year-olds when they start school - including heads and primary school leaders.

Our research shows that an overwhelming majority believe the tests are unreliable and unfair to both schools and small children.

NOW is the time to take action. Schools are being contacted to take part in the government’s pilot scheme of these pointless and damaging tests. Ask your headteacher NOT to take part.

Simply print the attached image, complete the tear-off slip and hand it to your headteacher.

Together, we can stop the roll-out of these tests for four-year-olds.
