"Photography wasn't on my radar until my mid-20s."
Matthew Baker - British Academy of Photography graduate.
Matthew Baker's story is one of inspiration and dedication.
"I never considered myself particularly creative until my uncle spoke to me about photography... the rule of thirds, the exposure triangle, things like that."
And that was the spark that ignited Matthew’s passion for image making. Matthew was working full-time supporting people with learning disabilities and autism but found a way to study photography at the same time.
"I saw that I could study remotely as well as fit it around work."
"The most challenging thing was learning how to learn again... it can be a little bit overwhelming. I embraced the challenge and enjoyed learning within a framework by the end."
Structured study gave him technical skill, real depth, a network, and a direction.
"I have naturally fallen into sports photography, live event and music photography, theatre work, and head shots/portraits which I'm really enjoying."
When inspiration hits, all you need to do is walk towards it.
