For Nishka, engineering is at its best when ideas leave the page and become something tangible!! 📈

As a third-year Mechanical Engineering student, she’s always enjoyed the hands-on side of her course, and Hackspace gave her the opportunity to take that even further.

Working alongside Joseph Nestor, Nishka developed SafeTravels, a modular emergency device designed to help search and rescue teams locate lost hikers. From the first sketch to a working prototype, the project allowed her to explore, test, fail, refine and build in a supportive environment 🙌

What started as an idea became a challenge, then a learning curve... and eventually a working prototype! 🙌

Meet Nishka, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at Imperial who developed SafeTravels alongside Joseph Nestor through Hackspace. SafeTravels is a modular emergency device designed to help search and rescue teams locate lost hikers.

From learning electronics and technical drawing, to prototyping and 3D printing her design, every step pushed Nishka outside her comfort zone. But that’s exactly what made the experience so valuable 📈

Her biggest takeaway? Building something real teaches you lessons that can’t be learned in a lecture theatre.

Here’s to taking on new challenges, learning as you go, and turning ideas into reality!
