🏆 U11 Netball Success!

What a fantastic two weeks of netball for our U11s! The girls have been outstanding, securing two tournament victories in just two weeks.

First, at Norland Place, the team won every game convincingly to take home the tournament victory. Their versatility, teamwork and determination were fantastic to see, with the girls confidently playing a variety of positions throughout the competition.

This weekend, our U11s continued their winning streak at the North London Collegiate School Netball Tournament. The team went undefeated all day, finishing with a brilliant victory over Heathmount in the final. What an achievement! 💙

A special congratulations to Sophia, who was named Player of the Tournament at Norland Place, and to Rosie, who was named Player of the Tournament at NLCS. 🌟

Well done to all our U11 netballers and a huge thank you to Miss Furneaux and Mrs Glynn for their superb coaching and support. 👏🏆

Flying the Eco-Schools Green Flag once again! 🌍💚

We’re delighted to have achieved our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award 2026, reaffirming our commitment to making sustainability part of everyday life at Orchard House.

From our Eco Committee and pupil-led initiatives, to waste workshops, wormeries, community gardening, litter picks and wildlife habitats, our pupils are learning that small, consistent actions can make a meaningful difference.

We’re also proud that the Eco-Schools Programme is aligned with UNESCO’s Greening Education Partnership Green School Quality Standard, meaning our Green Flag contributes to UNESCO’s global ambition to support greener schools and education for sustainable development. 🌱

We’re also proud to be a Plastic Clever School – Level 2 and to have achieved the RHS School Gardening Award – Level 1. Together, these achievements celebrate the many ways our pupils are learning, acting and inspiring others to care for our planet.

A huge well done to our pupils, staff and families — and especially to Mrs McWeeney (Head of Science & Sustainability) — for helping sustainability come to life across our school community. 🌿

🌍 Global Goals Week at Orchard House School 🌱

This week, we’ve been learning all about the UN’s 17 Global Goals and exploring how the small actions we take every day can build towards a much bigger impact. 💚

During assembly our Year 6 pupils, led by our brilliant new Eco Prefects, introduced the school to all 17 goals — and we even listened to a fantastic rap to help us remember them! 🎤👏

Across the school, pupils have also been getting stuck into classwork, thinking about what the goals mean and how we can all play our part in creating a fairer, healthier and more sustainable world.

A brilliant week of learning, creativity and inspiration — and a great reminder that every small action can make a difference. 🌎✨

🏐 Netball Success for Orchard House 🏐

What a fantastic week of netball for our U10 girls! The team enjoyed a superb run of results at two tournaments, showcasing the skill, determination and team spirit that are such a proud part of Orchard House’s netball tradition.

🥈 At the Epsom College U10 Netball Tournament, the girls won every game on their way to the final, just missing out on the top spot to finish as runners-up.

🥉 Then, at the Newland House U10 Netball Tournament on Saturday, they continued their excellent form, winning five matches, including the third-place play-off, to bring home bronze medals!

A huge well done to every girl who represented Orchard House. Your teamwork, resilience and enthusiasm were fantastic to see — and you should be incredibly proud of what you achieved. 🌟

🎷 An evening of jazz and a great cause! 🎶

Following their sensational concert in May, our Head of Music, Mr Hayes, and the New Tones Jazz Orchestra are back for another fantastic evening of live music at St Michael and All Angels on Wednesday 14 October at 7pm.

This time, the 17-piece professional jazz orchestra will pay tribute to four legendary tenor saxophonists: John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and the late Sonny Rollins, with an eclectic programme ranging from Giant Steps and Footprints to Recordame and St Thomas.

And there’s an extra reason to come along: proceeds from the bar will go towards the OHS Educational Trust, helping to provide bursary support for children at Orchard House School and broaden access to an OHS education. ❤️

🌟 Prize-Winning Poetry! 🌟

Huge congratulations to four OHS pupils who have won prizes at this year’s Chiswick Book Festival Poetry Competition!

Inspired by this year’s theme of Space, our young poets put pen to paper — and their creativity has truly taken off! 🚀 With around 200 entries from Years 3–7, the competition was incredibly popular, making their achievements all the more special.

At last Friday’s ceremony, the children enjoyed a poetry recital by head judge James Pendle, who read a poem he had created using one line from each of the winners’ poems. The prizes were then presented by local poet Christopher Jarvis.

We are delighted to share the results:
🥈 Althaea — 2nd Prize for ‘Earth’
🥉 Lana — 3rd Prize for ‘Cosmic Beauty’
⭐ Shreya — Commended for ‘The Fabric of Twilight’
⭐ Zadie — Commended for ‘Constellations’

We couldn’t be prouder of our talented poets! We hope their success inspires many more budding writers at Orchard House to get creative and enter next year’s competition. Thank you to Mrs Howells for all her support and guiding her pupils to success. ✍️ 📖

Today we’re celebrating one of the most beloved voices in children’s literature and an author who has brought joy, imagination and a love of stories to generations of children.
