Into our third century of nurturing the next generation of talent and supporting musicians to realise their potential. Music makes us.

We are the meeting point between the traditions of the past and the talent of the future, seeking out and supporting the musicians today whose music will move the world tomorrow. From pre-school to post-doc, our students come here from more than 50 countries. We challenge them to find their own voice, take risks and push boundaries. ‘The very first time I stepped into the Academy, I felt a very strong connection with the amazing students and staff there. The welcoming, warm atmosphere, combined with top class musicianship, curiosity and openness, is truly inspiring. I feel both excited, humble and extremely grateful for getting this opportunity to cement and develop the partnership with the Royal Academy of Music further.’

Bjarte Eike, one of the world’s most innovative and pioneering baroque violinist-directors, will join the Academy as Visiting Professor, commencing September 2026.

In this video, Bjarte performs John Playford's 'Wallom Green' with the Academy Baroque Soloists.

Many of you will know that the FIFA World Cup begins today, but did you know that the Academy is home to our very own football teams?

Since 1922 we've had quite the reputation as formidable opponents, with a great winning record that spans across decades. Academy football teams have also played overseas in China.

You might also recognise Aled Jones from his time on the team while studying at the Academy in this photo from our collections.

We wish the players all the very best at the tournament!

Academy alum Dame Evelyn Glennie recently performed an intimate concert at City Lit as part of her Listen Up! exhibition that ran throughout May.

Rather than a conventional performance, it created a participatory space in which listening was experienced as physical, emotional and relational — something sensed with the whole body, not just the ear.

Evelyn was joined by musicians from City Lit’s Percussion Orchestra, as well as fellow alum Bonnie Scott.

The Percussion Orchestra is part of City Lit’s Centre for Learning Disability Education, in partnership with the Royal Academy of Music.

He's not throwing away his shot 🎵📜

Starting 15 June, Musical Theatre alum Stephenson Ardern-Sodje will be taking over as Alexander Hamilton on the West End.

Stephenson auditioned to be part of the original cast of Hamilton alongside fellow alum Sam Oladeinde. They were both successful at the audition and Stephenson made his professional debut as 3rd cover A.Ham. Now, eight years later in a full-circle moment, he returns to the show as the principal lead.
