🧑‍🤝‍🧑 This week's theme is Humans! 🦴❤️🫁

Our topic table has been a brilliant one — a "Human Body" banner, posters of bones and organs, pop-up body books, and a skeleton outline ready to be labelled and coloured.

The children have been learning all about themselves — naming body parts, mirror time to chat about eye and hair colour, a body puzzle, and even a science experiment to see what happens to the food we eat! There's been playdough faces, sand foam, water play with dolls, paper plate faces and an x-ray style picture using black paper and chalk.

We finished with a "Go, Lungs, Go!" game (blowing pompoms to learn about breathing), a group body outline using wool for hair and fabric for clothes, and a cooking activity making cheese stars — yum!

This week our theme is Humans — and it felt extra special, because as our planning intent reminds us, we are mammals too!

🐾 This week's theme is Mammals! 🐮🐷🐴

Our topic table has been a firm favourite — a life cycle poster, photos of piglets, a horse and the fluffiest kittens, plus toy farm animals and a basket of eggs for counting.

The children have been finding out what makes a mammal a mammal (fur, warm blood, and feeding their young milk!), looking at the life cycles of horses, cows and dogs, and getting stuck into some lovely messy play — playdough, cornflakes, even blue spaghetti for our sea creatures!

There's been matching, sorting, texture hunts and counting along the way too, all building those important early Montessori skills — concentration, independence and a real curiosity about the world around them.

We finished the week with a cooking activity — animal shaped cheese biscuits — so do ask your little one what shape they made!

This theme table is to learn about the Reptile family of the Animal Kingdom. Children learn about reptiles: they are cold blooded, vertebrates, born on land from eggs. There are different types of reptiles: snakes, crocodiles, turtles and lizards. we had a visit from a Tortoise which the children could touch and feed with letuce.

As part of our exploration of the Animal Kingdom, this table is for classification of the fish family of animals. Children learn basic facts about fish: they have gills, scales and lay eggs. They are made aware of sea life, the habitats of the animals living in water and how to reduce water pollution.

On Tuesday we were very lucky to have some wonderful visitors from Bromley come to Orpington Montessori to do some planting with the children. We planted nasturtium seeds and also created a very pretty planter for the preschool garden. Thank you so much for your visit 🪴
