Today is a very special day for Fotosynthesis CIC. Our long-awaited PEACE PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDE was made with so much love. After endless meetings, writing retretas, careful selection of each image, caption and content, our founding director has co-authored IngridGuyon Foto with Tiffany Fairey, who co-authored this guide produced by Fotosynthesis CIC and designed by Diego Echeverrycheverry with contributions from 26 projects in 20 countries, is now online and free to download from the Imaging Peace website: https://lnkd.in/dw8uXbAT (A printed version is on its way!). Available in English, French and Spanish.
Based on years of research, endless meetings and writing retreats, and careful selection of each image and caption liaising with projects in more than 20 countries, this 122-page resource examines how images and image-making can be used to foster peace, dialogue and non-violent civil resistance.
This guide explores what a photography of peace consists of. It critically discusses the ethics and practicalities of community-engaged and participatory visual peace methods and features 26 peace photography activities. The accompanying website contains case studies of 26+ contributing projects and we plan to continue adding more.
We hope it will be useful for community, peace and visual practitioners and researchers who are interested in exploring how photography can be harnessed to transform conflict, navigate difference, foster healing and agency, build visibility and connection, and spark peace imaginaries.
This publication has been made possible by support from the Leverhulme Trust, Humanity United, the SSPP Methodologies Fund, and the Department of War Studies at King's College London and translated into French and Spanish by myself and many helpers.

A little bit of history...
Ingrid Guyon, photographer with passion for self-representation and ethics, believed in using visual arts as tools for social change and founded Fotosynthesis in 2009. Her studies in Visual Anthropology has shifted her career: she did not want to become a photojournalist or travel photographer but wanted to work directly with communities to ensure a fair and participatory representation.
