What you see: sand.
What we see: endless possibilities. 🏖️

A simple scoop, pour or dig is helping children develop so much more than we might realise, from fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to concentration, problem-solving and imagination.

Because at Monkey Puzzle West Norwood and Streatham Common, play is never “just play”.

📚 Happy National Literacy Day!

At Monkey Puzzle West Norwood, we love sharing books and stories with our little ones from the very beginning.

Reading together is such a lovely way to spend time together, while also helping children develop their language and communication skills. ‘You’re Not So Scary, Sid’ looks like a lovely choice for this little reading moment! 💛

Movement is a big part of everyday life at Monkey Puzzle West Norwood. 💛

We encourage our children to stay active, explore movement and have fun, while also giving them opportunities to take part in a range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year.

Because keeping little ones moving should be fun, engaging and something they look forward to!

Everyday routines are full of learning.

At Monkey Puzzle Streatham Common and West Norwood, we use books like 'Why Should I Brush My Teeth?' to help children understand the routines they experience every day.

We chat about brushing teeth, visiting the dentist, healthy habits and why looking after ourselves matters. The children always have lots to say, ask questions and enjoy sharing what they already know from home.

For us, this is what Early Years learning looks like - building confidence, communication and independence through experiences children can relate to.

Follow along for more everyday learning from nursery life. 💛

Meet Kady, our Deputy Room Leader for Little Explorers at Monkey Puzzle West Norwood! 💛

Kady started working in Early Years in 2012 and joined the Monkey Puzzle West Norwood team in 2019.

What she loves most about working in Early Years is seeing children grow and develop, supporting them as they become more independent, confident and willing to try new things.

Since joining Monkey Puzzle, Kady has had the opportunity to build her confidence and develop professionally. She values the support and opportunities she has received and how they have helped her grow in her career.

Kady believes children teach us the importance of listening to others, no matter how small their contribution may seem — something that can be easy to overlook but is so important.

Her favourite parts of the day are garden time and messy play, where children have the opportunity to explore, get creative and learn through their experiences.

Kady’s favourite G.R.A.I.N.S Value is **N – Nurturing Environment**, because she believes the environment around us can influence how we learn, behave and see the world.

Outside of nursery, Kady enjoys relaxing, cooking, going for a massage and getting out for a walk and some fresh air.

We’re so pleased to have Kady as part of the Monkey Puzzle West Norwood team.

Meet Toni, our Third in Charge at Monkey Puzzle West Norwood!

Toni has been working in Early Years since 2019 and joined the Monkey Puzzle team in 2022. What she loves most about Early Years? Watching the children grow, develop and become their own little personalities.

At Monkey Puzzle, Toni’s favourite part is being surrounded by her team, and when it comes to her favourite G.R.A.I.N.S value, it has to be **Respect** - because “it’s the basic foundation to a good team.”

You’ll usually find Toni enjoying garden time at nursery, while on her days off, she loves spending time with her friends and family.

We’re so lucky to have you as part of the team, Toni!

In our Toddler Room at Monkey Puzzle West Norwood, there’s never a dull moment!

And that’s exactly why Jasmine, one of our wonderful apprentices, loves it.

She loves the energy and activity of working with our toddlers, and when we asked what she thinks about the team, one thing really stood out – just how welcoming everyone is.

We caught up with Jasmine for a quick chat about life as an Early Years apprentice – from the best part of her job to the one piece of advice she’d give someone thinking about starting an apprenticeship themselves.

For us, apprenticeships are about giving people the opportunity to learn, get stuck in and grow in confidence, while being surrounded by a team that supports them along the way.

Have a listen to Jasmine’s take on it.

There’s something incredibly special about welcoming a child at just one year old and then, years later, watching them get ready to leave us for school.

During that time, so much grows and changes. Children find their confidence, reach new milestones and form wonderful relationships with the people around them. Our West Norwood nursery has grown too, with new outdoor spaces and environments created to give our children even more opportunities to move, explore and learn through play.

Behind it all are our people. Sheena Patel, our Nursery Director's, experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist continues to shape our approach to children’s physical development, while the growth and progression of our practitioners is something we’re equally proud of.

To hear all of this reflected back to us by one of our parents is incredibly special.

Thank you to our wonderful team and to every family who trusts us to be part of these precious early years 💛

Meet Louise 💛

Louise is our wonderful Deputy Manager at Monkey Puzzle West Norwood and has been part of the Monkey Puzzle team since 2018, with an Early Years career that began back in 2011.

What does she love most about what she does? "Watching children grow, develop and discover new skills."

And after all those years working with little ones, what have they taught her? “To be patient and that every child is unique.”

That fits beautifully with Inclusion, Louise’s favourite of our G.R.A.I.N.S. nursery values. For her, it’s about making sure every child is included, treated fairly and recognised as the individual they are. 💛

Her favourite part of the nursery day? Messy play! And outside of nursery, Louise loves movies, music, catching up with friends and enjoying some well-earned rest.

Say hello to Louise next time you see her around the nursery. 👋
