ποΈ High-rise and Construction
π¦ To extend their learning, the children were given the individual task of selecting their own media and recycled materials to create a high-rise building of their choice. As part of our BLS Communication and Language Learning, the children talked through and showcased their masterpieces in front of an audience, thus building their confidence and vocabulary.
π½We then talked about the materials used to build some of the famous high-rise buildings the children had seen on their holidays, such as: The Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Gherkin in London, the Empire State Building in New York and the most popular to talk about, being the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
π¨Working in groups, they discussed which of the buildings they would like to build. One particular group collectively agreed on building a replica of the Eiffel Tower. They tested ideas, adapting as they went and most importantly, listening to each other and cooperatively sharing the resources provided.

β½οΈ As part of our BLS Learning, we will be taking a tour of Wembley Arena, which will give the children an opportunity to see the iconic Wembley Stadium, too!
Construction play through children's life experiences is a powerful developmental tool that builds critical life skills, enhancing spatial reasoning, problem solving abilities and fine motor skills whilst fostering social cooperation when working in groups.

ππ¦πΏ Mill Hill's Barnardo's Big Toddle 2026
What an amazing day we had at our Big Toddle! Our children enjoyed a wonderful animal-themed adventure, exploring the animal kingdom.
π£ Our babies created animal footprints and explored different textures.
π¦ Our pre-toddlers brought animals to life by making animal sounds and discovering how different animals communicate.
π Our toddlers got creative, making animal masks and transforming themselves into their favourite animals.
π΄ Our preschoolers investigated animal habitats, learning fascinating facts about jungle animals and where they live.
The highlight of the day was our special toddle walk, where children and families came together for a fantastic stroll filled with animal surprises along the way! A firm favourite was Ellie the Elephant, who proudly lifted her trunk to congratulate everyone on their wonderful efforts. As the walk came to an end, the children got to meet Chase and Skye, bringing plenty of smiles and photo opportunities.
Meanwhile, our parents enjoyed relaxing at our mini coffee bar, treating themselves to iced coffees and croissants.
A huge thank you to all our children, families, and staff who made this event such a memorable success. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part and made our Big Toddle so special! π
