Throughout 2026, The English Manner celebrates its 25th anniversary. Last week, invited many of our TEM friends and family from over the last twenty five years to begin our celebrations, at a black tie dinner at Claridges.

To quote the end of William’s speech: “Past and present, each of you in this room has shaped what The English Manner is today. If manners, at their heart, are about kindness, consideration and making others feel at ease, then everyone here proves that we’ve all been practising what we preach all along. Thank you for being part of our story — and here’s to carrying it forward, with grace, good humour and even better friendship for the next twenty-five years.”

Our Founder’s Message

In 1984, having completed my education I found myself in my first real career employment; in the Royal Household of Her Majesty The Queen.

When I left the Royal Household I was frequently asked to sit on charitable committees and pumped for advice: who to invite, how to run an event, where to seat guests at official functions.

Shortly after I was approached to help the iconic Lucie Clayton Academy with their desire to move into the 21st century, and it was here that I perceived a very real need for ‘manners’ to become modern, but also, for every person in the world to understand what good manners and ‘etiquette’ means. To treat others as one would hope to be treated; to understand the correct ‘form’ so that everything goes according to plan the world over, from Kazakhstan to Los Angeles.

Perhaps from this, most important is the ability to cross the divide of cultures, and it is harmonious integration which is key to peace and prosperity for us all.
