SUMMER 2026: CAREERS IN FOOD DAY WITH FORTNUM & MASON

For this one-day workshop at Fortnum & Mason, students will work in teams alongside a Chef, Buyer and Marketeer, developing an original food product from concept to pitch. Taking inspiration from the fast-paced world of The Apprentice, each group will present their idea and make the case for why it deserves a place at Fortnum & Mason.

A unique opportunity to practice at the beautiful Fortnum & Mason and learn how to work collaboratively and get a taste of the many different careers that come together behind one of Britain’s most iconic food destinations.

SUMMER 2026: MARBLING

Watching patterns emerge and drift across the surface of water is one of the most captivating experiences in traditional craftsmanship.

In this three-day workshop at Cockpit , students will explore the ancient art of marbling with TCDT tutor Rachel O’Connell Rachel O’Connell • Mixed Media Marbling Artist + Leatherworker , whose three decades of experience have helped preserve and reimagine this remarkable heritage craft. Drawing on Japanese Suminagashi, Turkish Ebru and European marbling traditions, participants will create their own marbled papers before transforming them into hand-bound notebooks and leather-covered journals.

SUMMER 2026: TRADITIONAL WAISTCOAT MAKING

Behind every beautifully tailored garment lies a remarkable understanding of structure, precision and hand craftsmanship.

In this five-day workshop, students will work through the traditional process of constructing a classic waistcoat, from cutting fabric and fitting patterns to creating pockets, collars and hand-stitched buttonholes. Guided by TCDT tutor and historical costume maker Roxane Cressy, participants will gain first-hand experience of the techniques that have shaped bespoke tailoring for generations.

AUTUMN 2026: STONE CARVING

Few crafts connect us more directly to the built world than stone carving. From cathedrals and civic buildings to sculpture and architectural ornament, it is a skill that has shaped our surroundings for centuries.

This five-week workshop at the Building Crafts College introduces students to the fundamentals of traditional stone carving. Beginning with soap carving before progressing to soft limestone, participants will learn to use professional hand tools, develop their own designs and create a low-relief architectural carving under the guidance of experienced stonemasonry tutors. SUMMER 2026: HAT MAKING WITH LOCK & CO.

There are few places where history is still practised as a craft.

Established in 1676, Lock & Co. is the oldest hat shop in the world, the oldest shop in London, and one of the oldest family-owned businesses still in existence. For generations, its master hatters, milliners and craftspeople have helped shape one of Britain’s most enduring craft traditions.

During this five-day workshop, students will work alongside the Lock & Co. team, learning traditional techniques including steaming, blocking, brushing, polishing and hat repair, before designing and creating a hat of their own.

We’re proud to continue our collaboration with this extraordinary institution, Lock & Co. Hatters opening the door for the next generation of makers to experience one of Britain’s most iconic craft workshops.

AUTUMN 2026: GILDING & MARQUETRY WITH THE ROYAL HOUSEHOLD

As we begin sharing this season’s Autumn workshops, we’re delighted to shine a light on one of our most remarkable opportunities.

Hosted at the Frogmore Conservation Workshops, the Royal Household’s specialist restoration studios within the private Home Park of Windsor Castle, this five-day workshop offers students the chance to learn the intricate crafts of marquetry and traditional gilding in a truly exceptional setting. Participants will create their own marquetry piece before applying 23-carat gold using time-honoured gilding techniques.

We’re proud to once again collaborate with the Royal Household, giving students the rare opportunity to learn historic crafts in one of Britain’s most distinguished conservation workshops.

TCDT tutor Sarah Hocombe brings an extraordinary breadth of artistic knowledge to every workshop. A highly accomplished fresco painter, illustrator and former Visiting Lecturer at UAL, Sarah combines exceptional technical skill with a thoughtful approach to teaching.

In this four-day workshop at Cockpit , students will develop the foundations of realistic painting, learning to capture light, colour, texture and form through careful observation using professional watercolours.

SUMMER 2026: PLASTER CARVING

There’s something deeply satisfying about carving a pattern by hand and watching it gradually emerge from a solid surface.

This summer, join TCDT tutor Adam Williamson at Bow Arts Studios for five days exploring the art of plaster carving. Drawing inspiration from the rich geometric and botanical traditions of Islamic art, students will learn relief carving, plaster casting and mould making while developing their own beautifully crafted carved panel.

Whether you’re interested in sculpture, architecture, design or traditional craftsmanship, this workshop offers a rewarding introduction to the beauty of making by hand.

SUMMER 2026: EMBROIDERY WITH BEADS, SEQUINS, EMBELLISHMENT & TEXTURE

No two pieces of embroidery are ever quite the same.

This workshop encourages students to experiment with colour, texture and embellishment, discovering how beads, sequins and thread can become a personal form of creative expression.
