Summer Holiday Creative Writing Workshop
Creative Writing for years 4-6. This workshop takes place on 10th-12th August 2022, 9am-3.30pm. Cost: £425. Students will learn and practice techniques such as creating and embedding verb and noun-based metaphors, fronted adverbials and a variety of sentence structures, using similes, the 5 senses, character development, description vs action in a story, story development, and more. They will complete a variety of short, medium and longer writing tasks and will share their work and ideas with each other in a supportive, fun, creative environment.

11+ Summer Intensive
The Summer Intensive covers all subjects and is aimed at children going into year 6 in September who will be sitting the 11+. The course runs from 15th-19th August 2022, 9am-3.30pm. Cost: £725. We will cover English comprehension, grammar, verbal reasoning, nonverbal reasoning, maths and there may be a chance to do some descriptive writing, as well as some assessments to sit on the Friday of the course. If you are going away during the Summer, I highly recommend this course as a way to cover some key elements of the 11+ as revision for your child after a break. If you are sitting any grammar school exams or pre-tests then again, this course is designed to work alongside one to one tuition to revise key elements of the 11+.

11+ Autumn Half Term Creative Writing
This workshop runs from 22nd-23rd October 2022, 9am-3.30pm. Cost: £295. This 2 day half term Creative Writing course for years 4-6 follows a similar format to the Summer one mentioned at the top, with a focus on 11+ writing styles.

11+ Mock Exam Morning
Sunday 30th October 2022 from approx 9am-1.35pm. Cost: £150. This is an opportunity for your child to experience what it feels like to sit a full assessment morning before their independent school exams in January. They will sit a full English and maths test, and slightly abbreviated verbal and non verbal in order to make the day not too gruelling! For many students this is an invaluable experience as it gives them a less intimidating yet real opportunity to show themselves that they can complete these exams back-to-back and often that it isn't as scary as it might seem! They often report that it allowed them to get their nerves out of the way, and they could see how quickly they were going to need to work and also find out where they still needed to improve. We write feedback for you on their results so that you and their tutor can hone in on final areas for improvement before the January assessments.

Please contact me by return to book your space.

*******2 SPACES LEFT *******
We now have only 2 spaces left on each of the following courses, if you do want to reserve a spot for your child(ren) please let know by return and I will be in touch.

7+ Autumn Half Term Intensive

The course covers all subjects and takes place on 24th-28th October 2022,

9am-3pm. Cost: £725.

The 7+ intensive course is aimed at children in year 2 taking 7+ exams from November-January. This is my favourite course as the children love it so much even though it is a 7+ revision course!

We cover key topics in

· English comprehension,

· writing,

· maths,

· verbal and nonverbal reasoning,

· games

· paired and group working and competitions throughout the week to break up the lessons.

The Children will also do some sample tests on Friday which we give you and their one-to-one tutors feedback on so that you can focus in on areas for improvement in the final weeks before the assessments. Everything tends to come together in the October half term and final half term before Christmas for our year 2 students, as they have been diligently learning all the foundations in the run up to this point in time.

7+ Mock Exam Morning

Sunday 6th November 2022 runs from approx. 9am-1pm. Cost: £150.

This is an opportunity for your child to understand what it feels like to sit all tests in a morning as they will do on an actual assessment morning.

This can be an invaluable experience as it can raise/bring to light things such as nerves, concentration, ability to refocus, all sorts of exam technique points that whilst addressed earlier during one-to-one tuition, often only become "real" for a student when they experience an assessment morning.

I have seen students benefit by getting their nerves out of the way and feel more prepared for what to expect, learn for example that if they get stuck on a question that doesn't mean they need to go to the toilet 5 times during that paper (!), the importance of not missing out any pages in their test, showing their working etc. We write feedback for you on their results so that you and their tutor can hone in on these things before the actual assessments.

We are looking for enthusiastic, creative teachers and tutors who would like between 5-20 hours of work per week doing one to one tuition work.

This is delivered in hour-long lessons at each child's home, on a weekly basis throughout the academic year.

Most of our tutors stay with us for many years, but the minimum commitment is one year. Training is provided, and the job suits teachers who are looking to either supplement their income or take a step back from/break from full time teaching or would prefer the part time hours and independence this job allows.

We also recruit university graduates with some teaching experience such as teaching English abroad, working as an assistant in a classroom environment or at university level whilst completing their masters or further PhD.

A passion for working with young people and seeing them thrive is vital, as is a genuine love of teaching. Subjects highly sought after include English, maths, science from KS1-KS5 (primary school to A-Level) and entrance exam tuition as well as those with experience teaching students with learning differences. We also run small group courses during holidays and are always looking for committed professionals to run these alongside their one-to-one tuition work.

Hours of work when available – between 4pm-9pm weekdays as well as weekend work.

Having a car would be ideal but cycling or public transport are also fine. Must be able to reach the following locations – East Dulwich (SE22) and surrounding neighbourhoods including Dulwich Village (SE21), Herne Hill (SE24), Camberwell (SE5), Peckham and Nunhead (SE15), Forest Hill (SE23), Sydenham (SE26), Borough and London Bridge (SE1), Brixton (SW2), Crystal Palace (SE19) and New Cross (SE14).

My Marvellous Mum 💕

My marvellous mum is as beautiful as a flower with a hundred million petals,
Her eyes and smile make me laugh with joy,
Her amazing hair
Swishes in the air
As we walk to school.

My magical mum’s brain is as clever as a magician’s
She teaches me maths and trains me to teach my sister.
Her soft, kind patience helps me learn.

My magnificent mum makes me my favourite meal of fish and chips.
She takes care of me when I feel sick.
Thank you Mum,
For all the magical memories.

By Tim, aged 6.

This morning’s poem by J aged 6:

2019’s Super Spring

In 2019,
Spring chickens hatch,
We go to the church
And animals are born.
Like:
Bunnies, chicks, cows and sheep
And SO many more
And that’s when EASTER
Happens.

Kites fly on Mother’s Day,
And when the warm breeze blows
The children start playing
And all the LOVE flows.
This is SPRING
In 2019!!

This is 2019!
