Why sing?

The singing voice can be used to express emotion, unite communities and pledge allegiance People sing in the shower, as part of a choir or even in the stands of a sporting arena, it is one of the universal characteristics of being human and a feature shared by all societies.

At Rockhill Music School our vision to provide an environment where talent can be nurtured, cultivated and developed through singing. We give you the platform to express yourself.

Our workshops are design to help you discover your voice and inspire you to sing again.
The showcase you are about to experience is the work of 6 individual’s who took part in the Ten Week workshop:

Lánre

I love to write, it's where I find expression.

I have seen some amazing creative heads come through the 'Sing if you want to' workshop and I am always excited when there's an opportunity for people to express themselves... It's what we are created to do!
If there's anything I wish for, it's that people are inspired by the stories I write and sing about.

Ess-enSual Songs

Ess-enSual Songs is an aspiring songwriter/producer from East London.

His interest in music began through collecting CD’s of his favorite genre (R&B, soul, and Hip-Hop) from an early age and gradually evolved into becoming a club DJ.

Although he's always had a deep passion for listen to music, nothing could surpass his desire to get into music production and so in 2008 he took the leap of faith and began investing in his unexplored talent.

For the 'Sing If You Want' workshop Ess-enSual Songs will be performing two songs that he wrote, composed and produced:

Elizabeth Akpovare

AKA: Liz Brown!

I love singing because it’s a way of expressing my emotions and it brings a sensation of Joy & Strength.

Well, I was born singing - by that I mean crying!!! But on a platform level only a few years.

The 10 weeks course has really been a great experience for me as it has enabled me discover my voice better, help to build my confidence and see a different side of me through music.

Anna (aka Animator)

What can I say about myself? I'm fun loving and I enjoy a good laugh. People who know me will tell you that I smile a lot.

I've always enjoyed singing and have been in choirs since I can remember. But I wasn't comfortable with my voice and I actually didn't like the sound of my voice. Over the years as my passion grew for singing, I tried to get over my fears but nothing seemed to be working. Then I somehow found AYO...actually a God-sent because I was about to give up on singing. She told me about the workshop and I was excited...my last hope.

I now have confidence that I never thought I could have. I love my voice and how it sounds. During this workshop I was able to sing a special number at my local church. I'm able to pitch some notes that sometimes surprise’s me and the evidence is this finale.

Would I recommend the workshop?.... Most definitely. It offers you a place that you can express yourself in order to develop your talent. Ayo is a great teacher and her teaching technique is one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I will definitely be doing the workshop again.

Emmanuel

Emmanuel is an up and coming singer who started singing in his early teens. He joined a youth fellowship ministry (YFM) choir scoring his first solo in a Christmas concert at the age of 14. He has always battled with stage fright and it's effects on his performances, but is now overcoming it. Now 28 years old, he is a member of the Global Harvest Church choir 'The Ecclesia' and a regular attendee of Rockhill Music's 'Sing if you want to' monthly vocal workshops. In looking to further harness his voice and singing ability, he signed on to a 10 week Workshop with Rockhill Music. Now in completion of the course, he aspires to maintain the disciplines and skills learnt on the course and reach for the stars. The galaxy is the limit...

Sara

My name is Sara Allen. Since schooldays, I have found it exhilarating
to sing in harmony together in choirs. But as I was shy of singing on
My own, I always turned down offers of solo parts. Recently someone
Said God wanted me to be more creative. So when out of the blue, Ayo
Told me this great course was about to start; I thought it was high
Time to meet this fear head-on and step out. This is the first step!
