Scary coming back to the show after being off for your voice! Can you relate when you’re in a highly demanding singing role?

We are ALL human and need rest. But we feel highly pressured to recover fast in this industry. Because we want to be back asap.

I couldn’t breathe properly for a good few days and my ribs were extremely tight. So breath control on stage was tough for a good week back.

This is me preparing for the first day back after illness.

MY RECENT VOCAL STRUGGLE ⚠️

I’ve recently been putting rest into practice myself! I had a cold- turned into a chest infection and had an asthma flare up. I couldn’t breathe some nights when it got really bad! Called 111 and got help. Wasn’t sure what was going on!

But luckily I can feel when my body says NO. It’s time to go off the show girl.

I took the Monday off the show. Went back Tuesday as my voice sounded good. Then went in Wednesday and my voice was tighter and my asthma was bad! During Act 2 I thought “OH GOD” my voice wants to be silent now.

Luckily I know how to pull back and used my knowledge and technique to place my singing differently.

I then took the rest of the week off. And I had friends in! Gutting but the show will still go ahead because of AMAZING covers and swings.

Shout out to THEM!

I know if I tried to go back on a double show day, it’s not worth doing one and then leaving. It’s not worth pushing through to my day off. Because what do we want?
