Oh, I do love a success story!

Singer-songwriter, Jimmy Brixton, has passed on how he uses Fitzmaurice Voicework before his shows in NYC.

As Jimmy says 'it grounds me and I do the Tremoring while running some warm up vocal exercises - and it helps!"

Jimmy and I worked together in the Big Smoke before he crossed the pond to the Big Apple. Made in Italy but 'Made of London', Jimmy is a sublime artist to work with - unique, visionary and utterly dedicated.

Do pop by his IG and check him out - jimmybrixton_official.

And for peeps in the city that never sleeps - Jimmy is next appearing at berlin.undernyc on 25th October.

Buona fortuna JB!

Come on - let me know! How do you use your Fitz? Pop into the comments below (or if you prefer, a nickname of your favourite city will suffice...)

Hello all

I am hosting a Fitzmaurice Voicework intensive on 12th November, in London.

As we will be doing the entire Destructuring sequence on the day, the workshop is ideal for people who already have some familiarity with Fitz and who want to go a bit deeper - but any interested newbies who would like a taste of the work are also welcome.

Details are attached and info can also be found at : https://thevoicecentre.com/book-sessions/ola/services/fitzmaurice-voicework-intensive-12th-november-2022

Please DM me if you have any questions. Hoping to see you there.

Another 'food for thought' quote - this one from the composer and saxophonist Branford Marsalis.

So, the question is - what is the homework?

A few years ago I might have said 'practicing a voice progression regularly'. That might do the trick for some people, and that is fine.

Now, however, I would say, practicing a voice progression regularly - with intention.

Sitting still and listening.

Trusting instinct.

Observing how I feel, physically and emotionally while communicating.

Tuning into my body language through Fitzmaurice Voicework.

Forgiving myself if I feel I am an 'echo' and not a 'voice'. Probing as to why.

Being comfortable saying - I don't know. Right now.

Saying - let's see what happens.

What is the homework for you?

Dynamic. The Greek for power (δύναμις), in all the glory and nuance of that word.

A process of constant change.
Positive. Energetic. Innovative.
Varying levels of volume.
A 'vibe'.

Also - the physical shapes that constitute the Destructuring sequence in Fitzmaurice Voicework.

This one is called the Wave.

The Dynamics in the sequence start with the individual lying on the floor and eventually moving to standing, but each stage can be explored independently. Anyone who does Fitz has some 'go to' shapes.

Within one Dynamic, there can be a process of constant change, innovation, energy release and a range of body-voice volume explored. That is one of the beauties of this work. You can dive deep into one part of it and find out more about yourself and your habits.

All in the service of voice, communication and presence.
