Did you know that independent play helps your child develop their self-regulation?

Being able to play on their own is a great way to build a foundation to keep themselves calm and engaged, without assistance from others. This will also help to build patience, emotional control, and overall self-reliance, which is definitely needed for everyday tasks.

Head over to our blog https://bit.ly/3EwzUxl today for tips and other useful information on play based learning.

Tip of the day: Don’t force your child to learn a new skill such as sport or music just because you didn’t have the chance when you were little.

Follow your child’s interest instead and let them pick what they want to work on or would like to achieve.

"Small sounds can still make a big noise when you use a good sound conductor."

We listened through blow up balloons to experience new sounds.

We gently tapped on the balloons while they were next to our ears, talked through it.

This activity joined science and hearing sense together.

It comes from a good intention to want our children to do and learn as much as possible, booking classes and extra activities for them.

But asking too much of your child by overloading their schedule and capacity will lead to overstimulation, as they are not able to cope with too many experiences, sensations, or activities at once.

Overstimulation will not benefit their development, on the contrary.

Keep an eye out on our blog to learn more about overstimulation.

During our Easter themed week last week, we used cardboard egg boxes to match our eggs to their right colour.

We used pompoms instead of eggs to add sensory material.

It was great for the children to work on their observation skills, fine motor skills, and develop their French vocabulary.

Developing children's motor skills comes with risks.

We can’t learn how to walk without falling first.

Being outdoors provides children with more opportunities to experience risk-taking. It gives them the chance to experience and take part in tasks on a much bigger scale.

Children are able to challenge themselves and achieve new goals they wouldn’t be able to when they’re indoors.

It gives them the chance to discover and learn more about their own bodies and abilities while developing their self esteem and confidence.

Creating a parcour activity at home for your children is a great way to get some energy out of them (especially on a rainy day) while giving them the opportunity to develop and learn so much.

It’s super easy to create one with pillows, chairs, tables, or a tent and tunnel if you have.

During a parcour activity, children develop their balance, patience and observation skills, gross motor skills, hand and feet coordination, as well as gravity, space and volumes.

Independence play is when a child plays on it’s own, without interacting with another person but still being supervised by an adult.

We all know that “play” is extremely important in children’s development. It has been proven by many researches and we know play can enhance brain structure and function and promote executive function (the process of learning).

Independent play is vital for children’s development too. While interaction with adults and other children during play builds important cognitive, language, and self-regulation skills, independent play also has many more benefits.

To learn more about our smell sense, we used homemade scented Playdough with different spices such as cinnamon, cumin, rosemary or oregano.

We discussed what the different smell made us think of, what smell we like and dislike.

We also made masks with different types of noses for the children to understand that we are all different but similar in a way.
