Every child has the right to learn in an environment that supports them in reaching their full potential. But currently, two million children with speech and language challenges are face barriers to their success.

We’re working hard to change this, and you can help us get there. Our Inclusion bundles contain practical tools and strategies to support all children's speech and language development at a universal level, as well as adapt support for those at targeted and targeted-plus levels.

Some children are naturally quiet, whilst others are really noisy! But sometimes, being quiet can be a sign that there is something else going on.

Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder that makes talking in certain situations challenging, but it’s often mistaken for shyness or rudeness.

There needs to be more awareness around selective mutism so that children struggling are not left behind. Read more on our website >> https://bit.ly/4xHJ5ps

Right now, 1 in 5 children in the UK are struggling with talking and understanding words. And we know schools are under pressure to intervene early and provide evidence-based solutions in the face of rising demand and limited resources.

The Government’s inclusive mainstream fund provides an opportunity for schools to strengthen inclusion and improve outcomes for children and young people.

With our Pre-phonics Boost programme, you can turn this essential funding into meaningful impact for children.

Combining structured targeted intervention, staff training and progress measurement, Pre-phonics Boost gives children the foundational skills they need to use phonics as they begin to learn to read and write.

When a child loses out on language, they lose out on life.

Right now, far too many children are struggling to express themselves and connect with the world around them. This means they miss out on friendships, education and future opportunities.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Become a Friend of Speech and Language UK, and together we can make a difference to young lives 💫 >> https://bit.ly/3RJBSpb

“[The Government] must accept that the tyranny of rigid, non-evidenced rules does not work for 21st-century children.” ~ Jane Harris, Vice-chair, Disabled Children’s Partnership

Better support for children with speech and language challenges must be part of the Government’s changes to SEND education. We’re calling on them to revise behaviour management guidance so that teachers are supported to look for the root causes behind children’s behaviour and provide the help they need – rather than punishing children for things that happen because they’re struggling with talking and understanding words.
