The biggest lie we tell ourselves in our creative careers: "Once I get the title, I'll grow into it."

Reality check: It’s the opposite.

Senior leaders aren't looking for potential they have to train from scratch. They are looking for people who are already thinking like the next level up.

Stop waiting for permission to operate at a higher level.

Start showing it today.

There is a difference between being “good at your job” and being “ready for promotion.” The difference usually lives in a Google Doc. 📄

Here is the exact method I use to audit career gaps:

- The Hunt: Find 3 job descriptions for the role you want (not the one you have).
- The Consolidation: Paste every single requirement into one document.
- The Sort: Highlight the skills that appear in all three ads.

Those overlapping highlights? Those are “Common Skills.” They are non-negotiable for the next level.

Everything else is just a “Specialist Skill” nice to have, but not the reason you’re getting hired.

Swipe through for the step-by-step breakdown. 👉

Most creatives waste time learning "Specialist Skills" (the things that look cool on Instagram) instead of "Common Skills" (the things that actually get you hired).

Try this exercise tonight:
- Find 3 Senior Job roles.
- Paste the requirements into a Google Doc.
- Highlight the matches.

If "Team Management" shows up 3 times, but you're busy learning a new 3D software... you are widening your skill gap, not closing it.

Identify the common denominator. Then get to work.

Be honest.

If your career didn’t change this year, it’s probably not because you’re bad at what you do.

Most people aren’t stuck.
They’re unclear, invisible, or leveling up the wrong things.

Six months won’t fix everything.
But it is enough time to change direction, if you’re intentional.

Clarity creates leverage.
Proof creates opportunity.
Visibility creates momentum.

Save this.
Then actually commit.
