I really enjoyed my conversation with Bruce Daisley where he shares insights into what makes a high-enjoyment and high-performance work culture. He also talked about his transition, writing a book and launching a podcast while heading Twitter EMEA.

Bruce Daisley is the author of the Sunday Times best seller The Joy of Work, host of the number 1 business podcast eat sleep work repeat, a workplace culture expert and an award-winning speaker. He used to be the most senior employee at Twitter outside NA. He worked at Google where he ran YouTube in the UK.

I wanted to talk to him because I like the work he does and his takes on workplace culture and also because I was interested in his journey from media and Big Tech to what he does now.

I hope you enjoy listening and ‘til next we meet, Dare Be yourself!

I used to be afraid to ask for help. It felt like it was making me feel weak. That’s why I did not invest much in “networking” until late in my career. I struggled to show up vulnerably and build real relationships.

I am now blessed with many rich exchanges, helping me and my relationships grow.

We exchange ideas and we also help each other. Helping a friend or relationship gives me a lot of joy and getting help from them now feels great.

Go ahead and follow Caroline’s advice on how to network!

Investing in what energises you usually leads to great things.

At the minimum it gives you the energy to enjoy what you are doing elsewhere at work and in life.

At best, you make it a larger part of your work and life and you gain energy and power.

Emilie’s job drained her. Baking and cooking in her kitchen energised her.

I feel like life is a constant balancing act. Between what I value: do I value time with my family or more financial security? Between what I want: do more of what I love or what delivers most value?

The more you align what you do with your strengths, your values and your sources of flow, the more you let go of your fears, the closer you can get to something that looks like the right balance… but that’s unlikely to last a long time!

We’re all driven by deep desires to make an impact around us.

The clearer you are about your mission (as an individual or as a team), the easier it is to make decisions that are aligned with who you are and who you want to become. That’s my wish for you.

Deri Hughes made his early and mid-career decisions without being clear of his personal mission, leading him to take some wrong turns.

Don’t be fooled: following your dream is not an easy ride. It’s usually full of setbacks and doubt.

You need to find the true expression of your passion and talents, to find what truly energises you, to find what makes people tick, to find what makes the wallets open.

Once you do, magic happens.

That usually takes time and a lot of failures. I talk from experience :-)

What happens when you have a powerful gift, a gift that makes people laugh and cry, that makes stubborn people change their mind, and you are struggling to pay your rent at the end of the month?

Tis, my guest on this podcast episode, is a gifted public speaker. After going out of prison, this unexpected gift presented itself as a golden opportunity to create a new life with impact. But it was not working the way he needed it to work.

So he took big risks to revert back to his teenage passion. Listen to the episode here//bit.ly/3I1uN9i.

Months after switching career as an architect, Caroline had been looking for a paid job in the humanitarian sector in vain.

Instead she took an unpaid internship for the United Nations in Geneva, aged 28.

She used this opportunity to network: meet people who could ultimately offer her a job or make introductions. And it worked! And her network endures.
