Their statement: “The Turner Contemporary, the Carl Freedman Gallery and Droit House (home to an LED artwork by Tracey Emin) are illuminated by a message long ignored by many in the art world: No Zionists Welcome Here. Israel continues to use the art world as a means of legitimising the illegitimate, sanitising the colonial-settler ideology of zionism and normalising the annihilation of Palestinians. The Turner Contemporary does business with companies implicated in the annexation of the West Bank. The art institution, described as possessing the “spirit of radical enquiry”, has refused to denounce Israel or utter a word on the genocide of Palestine, despite relentless campaigning from local activist groups. Emin has a long-standing relationship with Israeli billionaires, Poju and Anita Zabludowicz. The Zabludowicz Collection and Zabludowicz Art Trust are at the centre of a years-long boycott campaign for their role in using art and cultural activities in the UK as a means of enhancing Israel’s image and lobbying on behalf of the genocidal regime. The seaside town of Margate, often lauded as a hub of progressiveness and inclusivity, harbours an art scene in bed with zionism. The policy of starvation and siege imposed as part of the genocide in the Gaza Strip has pushed hundreds of thousands of families to the brink of collapse.

Since October 2023, Israel has restricted the amount of food and essential supplies entering the Gaza Strip, while systematically destroying local infrastructure for food production and distribution. As a result, community kitchens and food assistance networks have become the sole source of food for most residents of the Strip.

Israa ‘Aziza, a 30-year-old mother of three from Gaza City, describes a daily struggle for survival. After her family members were severely injured in the explosions and their home was destroyed, Israa was forced to endure extreme food shortages that resulted in the untimely death of her father-in-law. Today, due to exorbitant market prices and the lack of cooking gas, Israa and her children are entirely dependent on community kitchens, where they wait in long lines to receive, at times, a single plate of food a day.

Recently, even this limited relief mechanism has begun to disappear. Following additional restrictions imposed by Israel on international relief organizations, the World Central Kitchen (WCK) has been forced to scale back its operations and shut down many of its kitchens. Of the six kitchens that previously supplied around one million meals a day, only three remain. Together, they can now produce just 200,000 meals a day, an amount that is wholly inadequate for a population of two million people struggling to survive.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, by October 2025, 455 people, including 151 children, had died from starvation and malnutrition. The ongoing siege, the destruction of infrastructure, and the resulting deepening humanitarian crisis are part of a deliberate Israeli policy.

Zionism is a racist political philosophy that has created an apartheid state in Israel and Palestine

The UK Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) has upheld a landmark ruling that anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism and constitutes a protected philosophical belief under the Equality Act 2010. The judgment rejects the University of Bristol’s attempt to overturn the central findings in favour of its former professor, David Miller.

The ruling reinforces a distinction which pro-Palestine campaigners, Jewish anti-Zionists and civil liberties advocates have defended for years: opposition to Zionism as a political ideology is not inherently the same as hostility towards Jewish people.

In its judgment, handed down on today, the EAT upheld the findings that the university’s decision to dismiss Miller and its refusal of his internal appeal constituted unlawful direct discrimination. It also preserved the conclusions that his dismissal was unfair and wrongful.

The judgment marks the latest development in a dispute going back years.

In early 2021, pro-Israel organisations and figures describing themselves as “proud Zionists” mounted a campaign demanding Miller’s dismissal over his criticism of Israel and Zionism. At the time, students at the University of Bristol defended the academic⁠, warning that allegations of anti-Semitism were being used to silence legitimate criticism of Zionism and Israeli violations of Palestinian rights.

The university dismissed Miller summarily in October 2021, despite an independent investigation clearing him of allegations of anti-Semitism.
