CAN YOU READ EMOTIONS?

"Are you tuned in to the emotions of others? Or have you been accused of being insensitive? If you are among those people who are mystified by moods, new research offers hope. A new study shows that certain types of reading can actually help us improve our sensitivity IQ. To find out how well you read the emotions of others, take the Well quiz, which is based on an assessment tool developed by University of Cambridge professor Simon Baron-Cohen."

SURPRISE

"Surprise is the briefest of all the emotions, lasting only a few seconds at most. In a moment, surprise passes, as we figure out what is happening, and it merges into fear, amusement, relief, anger, disgust, and do forth, depending upon what it was that surprised us, or it may be followed by no emotion at all if we determine that the surprising event was of no consequence" (Ekman, 2003).

There are cultural differences in expressing surprise, since people have different mindsets, information and past experiences.

HM... IS HE/SHE INTERESTED?

"The next time you find yourself in a restaurant, park, or anyplace public or private, and you want to know if someone is interested in you or watching you, look up at the ceiling and transfix on a single point. Then quickly turn around and see where [he or she] is looking. If [that person] has been watching you, [he or she] will be looking at the same thing you were". (Lieberman, 2007)
